Garmin Express does not see ANT stick on Mac OS X - workaround

I am having a problem where the ANT stick becomes no longer recognised. After a reboot it is fine, but when it is unplugged and put back in, Garmin Express can no longer see the stick.

I know the everything else in the chain works because I have successfully synch'ed using an OTG cable and the same ANT stick.

This procedure works for me:

Quit Garmin Express
Start Activity Monitor
Select "Garmin Express Service"
Force quit (press the x at the top LHS)
Start Garmin Express

Your watch will now synch.

OS X Yosemite 10.10.4
GE v4.1.5 (latest)
USB ANT StickTm Part Number: 010-01058-00

I did that simply because I do not keep devices added in Garmin Express. We test so many here it makes troubleshooting and analysis impossible. So I added a device and then restarted simply to simulate what would happen if Garmin Express was started on a computer with a device that was already added. A reboot may be beneficial.

  • Installed OS X 10.10.5. Similar problem.

I upgraded to 10.10.5, which involved a reboot.

When I start GE, the stick is recognised.

If I take the stick out the dot turns grey.

It now will not turn green when the stick is reinserted.

If I quit GE and then start GE the stick is recognised.

At least I don't have to kill GE Service with the Activity Monitor but it is not the expected behaviour.
  • We do currently have a ticket open for this issue. In the meantime the easiest workaround is to ensure that the ANT stick is plugged in and then quit Express (from the black triangle icon) and restart Express again from Applications.

  • Fixed in 4.1.6

I upgraded to 4.1.6 when it became available and the problem is fixed. Thanks.
  • Great, I'll close this thread then.
