Garmin Edge 520 Sync Fails (Garmin Express/Garmin Connect)

Hi,

After a day of successful syncs, I am getting a sync error "courses (Transfer Error)". The only change in the GC configuration is adding some Strava segments and a few new courses.

Can someone please help?

Thanks,
Gary

I am sorry for the troubles. It may be an issue with one of the Courses being sent to the Edge. Unless the course was created manually in the Courses widget or saved as a course from a valid fitness activity in Connect, it will probably have trouble syncing. Since there are no courses awaiting download to the Edge 520, Express should upload any activities completed today once it is connected to the computer. The FAQ below included instructions for manually uploading activities into Connect. Activities manually uploaded should be manually deleted from the device.

What should I do if I am unable to sync my mass storage fitness device using Garmin Express?

Use the section on manually uploading the activity into Connect if the issue persists. Contact Garmin Product Support by phone if the issue needs to be investigated further.

  • Transfer Error with Strava Segments - HELP!

Hi: I am getting the same type of error with my Edge 520. If I go into Strava and star some segments, they show up in my Garmin Connect Queue. When I select "send now", it launches Garmin Express. It tries to sync, and always is unable to sync many if not all of the segments. I get an error message stating that "Some Segments could not be sent to your device", with a list of all the segments and "Transfer Error" in parenthesis. All of the segments come directly from Strava and are not modified or sourced from any other location. My setup: Garmin Edge 520 connected via USB cable to computer.

It's really frustrating trying to prepare for a ride in a new area. Any help or suggestion is much appreciated.

Have you tried running Disk Utility on the device to make sure the memory on the Edge 520 has no problems?

How do I run a check disk or disk utility on my Garmin mass storage device?

Do the segments still fail to transfer after you clear them from the Sync Queue in Connect and resend them from Strava? If so, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance as well will need to do more in depth troubleshooting to see if we can determine why the segments fail to send to the device.

I just purchased an Edge 520 today (primarily for the Strava Live bit) and am having the same problem. I have run the disk utility as suggested, but seemingly the only result was an undoing of the initial firmware update. I am still receiving the error. I'm running the sync on a MacBook Air with OS X El Capitan 10.11. The URL below is a screenshot of the error (I can't get the attachment manager to work).

I am sorry that you are having trouble sending Strava segments to your device. If the disk repair did not solve the problem, please contact Product Support by phone as this will require troubleshooting that can not be completed here.

  • Exact same problem with my new Garmin 520

I have exactly same problem, a new Garmin 520 running firmware 3.3 , Strava and Garmin accounts connected. Garmin Express tries to sync 34 starred segments from Strava and fails. Obviously not a problem with the 520 since others have reported the same symptoms and problem.
  • KINGFISHER.

Clear out the Sync menu on the left in Connect. There are two segments still in the que that are not in your Strava Segments list. More than likely Connect simply couldn't create the file for the two segments during the sync process. Sync again once this is done and the Segments should transfer.

Hi, did you manage to solve this problem? I got the same issue with my Edge 520 now, tried everything - nothing works
