Changed Map for lack of space, now cannot change back

I have a Nuvi 3597, with Europe Map. When I updated to 2016.10, space was not enough and I was suggested to change to a subregion of Europe. I changed to Southern Europe. When I installed an SD card (in fact, changed a 4G one that was installed to a 8Gig one), I changed the region again to Western Europe (thinking that was my original setup).
The problem is that voice commands (in my country, Spain, in Spanish) are not "available" now. I have read that I should come back to the original maps setup, I guess the whole Europe, to make voice command work again.
But when I use Garmin Express to "change map", the only thing that happens is that Western Europe is installed once again and again, and cannot go back to Europe, and never getting again voice commands (well, voice directions, to be precise)
Do you know can be done ?
Thanks a lot,
Rafael
  • Yes, the FAQ for voice commands is here

and you might find it helpful to run through the advice there.

As for your map update problem, are you sure your nuvi originally came with full EU mapping? If it did Express should offer you that option.

I am sorry that you are having trouble with Garmin Express. We have a case open for this issue as it is currently not possible to change the region back to full coverage once you have selected a smaller region on the Mac version of Garmin Express. If you have access to a Windows PC, you will be able to change the coverage using the Windows version of Garmin Express. If you do not have access to a Windows PC, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone as the XML on your device will need to be changed.

If you are unable to contact product support, you can try changing the file on your own by following these instructions:
    • Quit Garmin Express by clicking the black triangle in the menu bar and choosing Quit (do not leave it running in the background)
    • Connect your device to your Mac
    • Open the Garmin Drive from the Desktop or Finder
    • Open the Garmin folder
    • Right-click (Ctrl + click) on GarminDevice.xml
    • Select Open with and choose TextEdit
    • Click Edit in the menu bar
    • Click Find and select Find and Replace...
    • In the Find box type 006-D2972-19
    • In the Replace box type 006-D2755-20
    • Click Replace
    • Press Command + S to save the file
    • Close the file
    • Open Express and you should now be able to reinstall full coverage

Thank you very much to all, and sorry for the late reply.
It was a problem with the Mac version of Garmin Express, as pointed out by Jason. When one installs a partial map it seems, as reported elsewhere, that voice command can be lost.
I used the procedure suggested by Jason (I didn't have a PC at hand) and it worked.
    Thanks so much.
