edge 500 having issues with express

Hi,

Ive had this 500 for 5 years, hardly had any issues. Garmin express usually sync easily and without fuss.
Today it wouldn't recognise the 500 was plugged in, the 500 tried to load the satellites as if it wasn't mounted to express.
I went into disk utility and the 500 was being seen by my mac book pro.

When i went back into garmin express it found the garmin but when it tried to sync it said sync failed in a red error bar along the top!
I restarted my computer and turned off/on the garmin. Then the garmin wasn't even a device option for me! I added it back in as a device but not it just says connected and won't try to sync.

help?!

    I am sorry that you are having trouble with Garmin Express. Please try the steps in the FAQ What should I do if I am unable to sync my mass storage fitness device using Garmin Express?

    If this does not solve the problem, please contact Product Support by phone.
