Nevi 1450LMT Express can't find SD card

Hi,
The SD card in my NUVI 1450LMT is 16GB in size with slightly over 2GB used. It is formatted FAT32. I have used it successfully to update maps onto 7 or 8 times. Tonight when I connected the Nuvi for the latest updates it appears to have competed the software update but then says it can't find the card to start the actual ma update. I am able to see and browse the internal HD and the SD card in the MACs Finder. Any ideas what I should try next?

Thanks,
Jim

I would be happy to help you with this. Garmin released an update to Garmin Express today, please make sure to install it. It sounds like you have covered most of the suggestions in the FAQ:Why won't the map update applications recognize the SD card? Try deleting the device from Garmin Express, restart the computer, then adding it back. When Garmin Express prompts for the SD card, insert it in the nuvi then give the computer a little time to recognize it before continuing. If you continue to have trouble try a different SD card or computer if possible.

    Hi Curt,

I have tried everything I can. I used a different SD card with 4GB free. I re-booted the computer. Wouldn't work. I could see the Internal and Sd drives in the OS X Finder. I reformatted the card to make sure it was Fat32 and tried again. Still no go. All of this on my iMac desktop. Next I installed Express on my MacAir and went through the same steps. Still won't work.

There has to be something else. Any suggestions ?

    Thanks,

    Jim
  • Possibly a long shot but how much free space do you have on your nuvi itself? If its full try deleting some unneeded voice or help files to free up space then try again.

    Hi Sussamb,

Internal drive reports having 1.9Gb total and 1.47Gb free.

    Thanks,

    Jim
  • It's not that then. Given you're on a mac is the trash empty on the card? If that's not the issue then in your shoes I'd try cloning the nuvi and loading the maps that way, instructions are here http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39231

    Hi Sussamb,

Yes, I emptied the trash. No difference. So I followed the instructions in the link you supplied. Using Express (With the Nuvi physically relieved from the machine and the SDcard in the reader slot) I told it to update. Express found the card and acted as if it was the Nuvi. Then it went through an install procedure although very quick. At the end, it said "Updates Complete!" on a green background. So I looked at the Sd card in Finder. Nothing on it has changed. There/s still the Garmin folder with the GarminDevice.xml file. That's all that appears in the Finder for that card. Yet when I run a "Get Info" on the card it comes back with Used as 2.23 Gb and available as 1.73 with a capacity of 3.96Gb. I tried exposing hidden files using the OS X terminal window but still nothing.Weird or what?

    Thanks,
    Jim
  • Map files are in a hidden folder named .system

To see it you must have your computer set to show hidden and system files.

    Hi Sussamb,

As mentioned, I had entered the command to "unhide" the hidden and system files. Hadn't entered "Killall Finder" though! Duh!! Anyway, i was able to follow the instructions in he link you provided and it seems to have worked. Just out of curiosity is there a bug in the latest Garmin Express or has something else changed?

    Thanks,
    Jim
