Map update fails

Everytime I try to update the map through Garmin Express the update fails.
Anyone has an idea on what the problem might be?

I also get a lot of server errors when trying to sync through both Garmin Express and iOS app.
  • It would help if you told us which device and which map? When you try to update what happens? Any error messages? If so what?
  • Device: Edge 1000
    Map: Europe

The error message I get is just: "sync failed" or "could not communicate with server"
  • Try the steps here then

I've already tried all of that. Nothing helps.

I sympathize. I just updated my Nuvi 3597LMTHD on Mac OS 10.10.4 Yosemite last night...after waaaaay too many hours and a LOT of frustration. I did several things that, together, made the update complete in just a few minutes; 'not sure which ingredient was the secret one, or if it was a magic combination. But here's what worked for me.

    1. Make sure no backup program is running in the background.
    2. Make sure you have a bunch of free space available on the hard drive of your computer
(I freed up 10-12 GB, just to be sure the program had breathing room)
    3. Change the System Preferences, Energy Saver, Computer Sleep and Display Sleep to NEVER and uncheck all the boxes
    3. Have a good SD card with plenty of capacity installed in your Garmin
    $13.99 on Amazon:
SanDisk Ultra 32GB UHS-I/Class 10 Micro SDHC Memory Card Up to 48MB/s With Adapter- SDSDQUAN-032G-G4A [Newest Version]
    4. Download and install the newest version of Garmin Express from the Garmin website: www.garmin.com
    5. From this point is was as if by magic for me; it ran like clockwork and did the update in just a few minutes without hanging!

I hope this helps you or someone!

    Best of luck!
  • In your case probably 2, in the system requirements it states Express may need up to 13Gb of hard disk space, although 3 and 4 are also advisable.
