Nuvi 40 - Garmin Express Can't find microSD card

I have crawled the forms and over google looking for an answer. I have a Garmin Nuvi 40, I am attempting to update it for the first time in a year an a half or so. The device says it has 2.2 MB of storage left currently and insists that I install everything onto a microSD card.. Fine I can work with that. I happened to have a spare 8gb microSD laying around. Its a ScanDisk card. Its verifiably mountable, and in working order. I have mounted it through a reader on 2 different computers, I have mounted it through a couple usb readers. AND it even mounts through the Nuvi itself. So its not for a lack of trying. The problem here is, Garmin Express refuses to notice the SD. So.. any Ideas?

Also I am using a Mac not sure if thats a difference or not, using Yosemite El Captain...

Ensure the card is formatted FAT32. Only insert it when prompted to do so by Express.

I am sorry for the troubles. Please see the FAQ: Why won't the map update applications recognize the SD card?

If you continue to have troubles contact Garmin Product Support by phone.

Nuvi 40 - Garmin Express Can't find microSD card

I would be very interested in knowing the full answer and solution to this too. I have added external memory (8Gb) to my Nuvi 2597 and Garmin Express still shows memory to be 99% full. The external memory shows up as a separate drive in Finder.

Express doesn't report the status of the memory card, just the internal drive.
