920XT Software update problem

I'm having a problem updating the software on my 920XT. When I plug my device into my laptop, I can see it on my desktop but when I open Garmin Connect and hit the 'Open Garmin Express to Update' it tells me my device is not connected. I've tried the other USB port with no luck. I'm on software version 2.5 while the latest is 4.2 so a little out of date. Any ideas??

    Is the Forerunner 920XT added to Garmin Express and syncing with your Connect account? I notice you have two separate 920XT associated with your myGarmin account. The prompt for a software update should come from Garmin Express not necessarily Garmin Connect. Please see the article below. That should get you setup to receive a software update on the device.
    What should I do if I am unable to sync my mass storage fitness device using Garmin Express?

    920 Software Update Problem

    Hi Curt,
    The first 920XT was the model which was recalled due to a faulty seal and I can't seem to delete it from my Garmin Connect account. The second device is the replacement. I've followed the prompts from the link below (downloaded the latest version of Garmin Express and WebUpDater) but my 920 still won't update with the latest software. Not sure what I should do next. Is there a support place I could bring it to in Sydney, Australia?

    I am sorry that you are having trouble updating the software. I would definitely like to see you get the software updated as there have been many improvements since v2.5. I went ahead and removed the old device from Garmin Connect to eliminate some confusion. I would also recommend deleting the old device from Garmin Express if you haven't already. To delete the device, follow the instructions here: How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?

    Once you only have one device in Garmin Express, try updating the device again. If you are still having trouble, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone.

    Software update problem

    Hi there,

    I've managed to get Garmin Express to connect with my device but now I'm getting a install_app (Transfer Error) message when I try to update my software. Not sure what it means.

    Typically, this occurs when there is a bad or corrupted Connect IQ app in the Sync Queue in Garmin Connect that is trying to download to the device. If you clear the Sync Queue in Garmin Connect and then sync your Forerunner 920XT, the sync should proceed with no errors.

    • Select the Sync Queue icon from the menu on the left
    • Click the X for each item in the queue to remove it, then Remove to confirm
    • Attempt to sync again in Express


    If the error does continue, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.
