Connected Nuvi 2200 and lost maps

Hi,

I just downloaded the Garmin Express for Mac and then connected my Garmin Nuvi to my Mac for updates.

I installed all of the recommended updates and then turned it on to see what had changed. I have now lost the Portugal and Spain Maps on my Nuvi.

On the Garmin Express App it says the maps are installed on the device. I have tried to reinstall them but still nothing.

Is there anything I'm not doing correctly or anything I need to do?

Please help

Thanks
  • Have you checked on your nuvi under Settings, Map and Vehicle, myMaps to see if any maps are shown? If so are they selected?

If no maps show run Express again and under map options select Reinstall maps

    Hi,

I have checked under Mymaps and there are no maps showing.
Before I connected it to my Mac and did the updates with Garmin Express the Portugal and Spain maps were showing.

I have just don't the reinstalled the maps again and still nothing

It just comes up with 'Cannot Unlock Maps'
  • Were those the original maps installed on your device? If so when you say it comes up with 'cannot unlock maps' when is this? It's a bit difficult to understand what you've tried without a clear explanation.

Can you confirm that you selected Map options in Express, chose 'reinstall maps' and waited for the download to complete. You then disconnected your nuvi, switched it on and get the message 'cannot unlock maps'?

    Sorry if I was unclear.

I don't know what the original maps were as I bought the nuvi 2nd hand.

I selected Map options in Express, chose 'reinstall maps' and waited for the download to complete. I then disconnected my nuvi, switched it on and got the message 'cannot unlock maps'

The nuvi 2200 originally came preloaded with City Navigator Europe NTU 2013.10, Spain & Portugal. You should be able to use the article below to reinstall the maps.

How do I reinstall maps or change coverage using Garmin Express?

    Hi Curt,

I have already tried reinstalling the maps using the method shown in that link and I still get the same outcome.

Please read the earlier posts in the thread.

    Thanks

  • The 'can't unlock maps' message is due to having no unlock file. If you've downloaded the maps again and are still getting that message you should phone Product Support. You might be able to do it yourself as follows:

    1) Log into your myGarmin account.
    2) Click on the myMaps tab.
    3) Find your GPS in the list and click on the details link to the right of the image of your device.
    4) Find and copy the Product Key for your map product.
    5) Connect your GPS to the computer.
    6) At the top right of the page there's a "Unlock On the Road/Trail Maps" link. Click on that. You'll be taken to a "Unlock Maps" page.
    7) Scroll to the bottom of that page. You'll see a section with the Unit ID field filled in.
    8) Enter the "Product Key/Coupon Code" (from 4)) and then click the "Retrieve Unlocks" button.

That will (re)create the GMA and UNL files on your device.

    Hi,

I have gone to myGarmin and and myMaps tab but all it shows is the Serial Number and Unit ID
Ive taken a picture of both of these.
I then connect my nuvi to my Mac

But where is the 'Unlock On the Road/Trail Maps' link??
    I cannot find it anywhere?

    Thanks

    Jonny
  • If it's not visible as I posted then your best bet is to contact Product Support for help.
