Edge 305, Garmin Express, Mac

I have an Edge 305 and a MacBook Pro. When I plug the 305 into the Mac, the Garmin Express App says:

Unsupported Device Detected

A different version of this application needs to be installed to update this device.

I don't really want to update the device, I just want to upload my activities to Garmin Connect so that I can sync with Strava. What am I doing wrong?

I used to be able to upload my activities from the Edge 305 to Strava but I recall it being a more direct process - perhaps via a plug-in or something if memory serves? Has Garmin changed things?

Help me get back with the times!

I am sorry that you are having trouble updating your device. Garmin Express is the preferred method for syncing your device to Garmin Connect. If you are getting this message, you may be using an old version of Garmin Express. Please make sure that you are using the latest version which can be downloaded here: http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.dmg If you are still having trouble, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone.
