On Sunday I bought a brand new edge 1000 from my local dealer. The software on it is version 2.5. I have tried repeatedly to upgrade the software to 3.1 using garmin express but it just times out. Garmin express is fully upto date. Most annoying. Is there a know problem with this and a fix available or should I just return the unit and get a refund. Dissatisfied customer.
Certainly not running any 3rd party security and tried it with the firewall off. Still no joy. Simply times out every time I try. wasted too much valuable time already. Will return to the shop and buy another model from a different manufacturer
Yes I can connect to the garmin site via the link you kindly provided straight through with no problem. There are 3 updates to install and I have tried as a single upload and each one individually but after a few minutes simply says "There was a problem installing this update" For info I also have a Edge 500 and 810 and Forerunner 610 in the household and do not have any problems uploading updates to either
You may try looking at the recent log file (which has a file name similar to "Service_2015.07.21.txt" — note the today's date). The logs are stored in user's Library folder:
Please ensure that Express is up to date and there are no security programs running that might stop the download. I have just tested the update process and am not running into any issues with the software update for the edge 1000. If you continue to have problems please contact support.
As suggested I contacted support. Their advice was to update the firmware on my Garmin Edge 1000???? (which is what the problem is)
Not really very helpful advice and are awaiting further help - I don't think they even read the post. I also notice other people are experiencing similar problems
Has anybody else got any ideas this is driving me nuts
I brand new Edge 1000 will probably have 3 updates initially. The firmware 3.1, the Time Zone Map, and the very large CycleMap. If you continue to have troubles, try using the Garmin Web Updater to update the firmware on the Edge. Updates are compatible with high speed cable and DSL internet connections. Once you get the firmware up to date, remove the Edge from Express and Connect then add it back again.
When you do the CycleMap Update, I suggest you connect the computer to your router or modem via Ethernet cable instead of using wifi. The CycleMap is over a gigabyte in size.
What should I do if I am having problems downloading updates in Garmin Express?
I have already tried to update the firmware using Garmin Web Updater. The result is similar to when using Garmin Express and it gets to about 54% and then freezes. I have left it a considerable time but nothing more happens. The comments regarding connecting my Mac to the router are noted but the firmware cannot be updated. For info I have also tried to update just the firmware on Garmin Connect (by selecting just the firmware from the list of 3 updates) but this freezes as well at about 80%. I have tried all of this on both a desktop and laptop and have the same problems on both machines. I have also checked the Web Updater is up to date.
Do you have an additional memory card in the Edge 1000? I had the same issue when I got my unit and couldn't understand why it wouldn't update. Then, almost on a whim, I installed a memory card. This was initially to allow me to store more courses and routes but also cause I had the suspicion that the updates were failing due to lack of perceived free space on the device.
I re-ran the updates after the card was installed and was successful. Even though the updates didn't write anything to the external memory card.
