Cannot update maps in Garmin Express

Hi.

I have a nuvi 1690 and have the lifetime map updates.
I have just updated Express to 4.0.14.0 but when I go into it to check for the latest maps it states they are already up to date.

I haven't updated my maps for around 6 months.

I had some issues with the device seeing my SD card some time ago and had to use MapInstall to get it all working correctly.
If i go into MapInstall now it shows the device as having 2014.4 maps installed. Is this really the latest version?

I would like to get back to using Express to install future updates and would be happy to wipe the device and start again PROVIDING I can backup my waypoints, addresses etc.

Is this possible?

  • Yes u can, if u us Garmin Basecamp u can store all your waypoints.
  • As Mario says you could use Basecamp. You could also use the method linked to here https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7Ba1f85d30-a65f-11e4-4df3-000000000000%7D that also explains how to master reset your nuvi.

    You don't say which map you have but the latest NA and EU map is 2015.40

    Also note the latest Express is 4.0.18

    Thanks so far.

    I have updated to 4.0.18.
    I have also installed base camp and backed up waypoints etc. I've also backed up in Express.

    I then reset the device using the link provided and went back into Express - no map updates.
    I then tried MapInstall which doesn't give me any option to download any later map updates than what I already have (2014.4)

    I think I have paid for just the european map updates.
    everything points to using Garmin Express. the reset did not remove the existing maps, could that be the problem?
    Can I force the 2015.4 maps onto the device?
  • Are you sure you have lifetime maps? I assume the EU map was originally loaded to your nuvi? What do you see listed in the myMaps tab when you log into myGarmin?

  • Seems like there may be an account mix up somewhere. One of the Express team will need to look at this for you. Incidentally MapInstall won't offer you updated maps. That program only installs maps that are already on your PC to your nuvi.

    I'll move this thread to the Express forum.

    I have looked into your myGarmin account and see you do have a 1690 registered. When looking at this device it does show that it has Lifetime Map services. There was a small issue with the device in our system which I have corrected. Please delete the device from Express and re-add it. The device should now be offered a map update to the Europe 2015.40 map update.
