Garmin Express Sync Workouts with 405cx

I have a 405cx. It has been syncing great with Ant+ Agent.
But now, the website will only allow me to alter and add workouts in modern, so I switch to this.
It wanted Garmin Express, I allowed that to install (and de-install Ant)
Now when it syncs I get a "red ribbon"at the top saying "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect" (but not what the error was).
My watch says "Transfering data" but the BAR-GRAPH does not move along.
My watch then says "COMPELTE"but nothing has transfered.

I'm using Mac OSX 10.10 and Firefox and Safari. Both of them bring up Garmin Express APP, but it's the APP that fails with the Red Ribbon at the top. In otherwords, it doesn't depend on the browser.

How do I fix this?

Thanks, Dion

Have you removed and added the device back to Express? I would suggest following the instructions in the article below for some basic troubleshooting:
What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client?

  • Thanks for your suggestion.

I have deleted the 405CX and re-associated it, and the problem persists.
I have followed all the Support article through
    1) the computer meets the minimum system requirements
    2) the USB ANT stick is connected straight to the computer
    3) there is no USB cable is a data transfer cable
    4) Ensure that Garmin Express is up to date
    5) I deleted the 405CX, re-booted and re-associated the 405CX

It still says: in a "red ribbon" at the top of Garmin Express "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect" (but not what the error was).

    What do I do next?
Is the 405CX compatible with Garmin Express? When Garmin Express was launched, the 405CX was named as incompatible.

    Thanks for your help.

I have exactly the same error, I've tried:

    - Hard reset
    - Re-associated
    - Add garmin.com to trust site

I think that the problem could be that garmin express don't download the workout to the directory pendingSyncUploads because it is empty
  • All,

The 405 is compatible with Express. If you have follow all of the instructions in the article, please contact support.

Same here with a 410 (with Garmin Express on the Mac) :(

Uploading single workout from Connect (Workouts) via Express to 410 works.
Uploading multiple workouts from Connect (Calendar) via Express to 410 does not work.

Exactly as stated above: Red Ribbon at the top says "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect". My watch says "Transfering data" but the progress bar does not move along. Then it says "COMPLETE" but nothing has transferred.

    Things I managed to check:

    * TCX was successfully downloaded to PendingSyncDownloads
    * Express Service Log reports the following:

    Any clue? Thanks

This issue was noted in another thread and a ticket was created today for further research. Sending one Workout at a time should go through (each one sent will replace the previous one on the Forerunner 410), but the Calendar transfer with multiple Workouts may error.

    Any clue? Thanks

I have the forerunner 410 too.
How can i see the log? I try upload only one workout but fails. In my case file wasn't successfully downloaded to pendingSyncUploads
  • Hi Anthony,
what thread should we watch for a progress report, this thread or another?
When are we likely to see a fix? (It's a fairly major thing, that I now can't upload my calendar of workouts.)

Thanks for the work-around. I can confirm that if I go to WORKOUTS and send just the 1, it works/uploads to the 405CX. But as you note, I'm now limited to one workout as the next one over-writes the existing one.

I also tried deleting all my scheduled workouts but one, and tried the calendar sync. I can confirm that CALENDAR SYNC does not work, even if there is just ONE workout. So it would appear that the calendar is not compatible with the 405CX.

Thanks for looking into this. Regards, Dion
  • For an update on this, see this thread here: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?236177-Sending-scheduled-workouts-to-calendar-fail
The issue is that connect.garmin.com/modern/calendar is not Compatible with the 405CX and sends the wrong file to the watch. It sends a .FIT file, which the 405CX is not compatible with :-( the 405CX expects a file called "trainingPlan.TCX"
Those with the 410 and Fenix 3 also report the issue on the above thread.

There is no estimate on when or if this will be resolved.

So the Modern Website is broken, in the interim you can:
    1. Goto: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/calendar (the new website to add a workout)
2a. Goto: https://connect.garmin.com/calendar (the old site)
2b. Click on the "Right Arrow/Upload" icon to the right of [Week/Month/Day] icons, and choose "Send workouts to device" (as you have probably already being doing?

    Hope this helps.

Edited: to remove the first two steps of deinstalling EXPRESS and re-installing ANT-AGENT as the issue is not with GarminExpress, but rather an issue with https://connect.garmin.com/modern/calendar
