Sending scheduled workouts to calendar - fail

I have a Garmin Forerunner 410. I used to use the Communicator plugin and Garmin Training Center application to send multiple workouts to the device. Worked fine.

Now I'm using the Garmin Express/Garmin Connect since it seems Communicator is no longer supported. Plus I like the automatic uploading of workouts and web interface. But I have lost the ability to send multiple workouts.

On Garmin Connect, from the Workouts menu I can view any created workout and send it to the device. It overwrites any existing workouts already stored on the device. So it works, but it's kind of a drag to send one day's workout at a time.

But when I'm in the Calendar on Garmin Connect, I select "Send to Device" to send multiple scheduled workouts to the device, and after a longish delay I get a message that the sync failed.

I've recently updated the Garmin Express software to the latest version. Express tells me that the Forerunner is running its latest version. Today I did a hard reset of the device but the problem persists.

Thanks in advance for any clues.

I am sorry that you are having trouble sending multiple workouts from the calendar. We do have a case open for this. The underlying issue is a .FIT file is being sent to Garmin Express which is not compatible with this device. Unfortunately, we do not have an estimate on when this will be resolved.

Hi Curt, my Forerunner 405CX would accept multiple workouts (I would normally have about 8 on it) as long as they were sent from the Calendar. Garmin Ant Agent ver 2.2.2 would quite happily send these workouts. It is Garmin Express ver 4.0.14.0 that has broken sending from the calendar.

So is it possible to downgrade to Ant Agent ver 2.2.2?

Using the Ant Agent is an option. Please know that both Garmin Express and the Ant Agent use the ant stick and cannot share it so the first program to open will have exclusive rights. To test the other program you would have to close both Garmin Express and Ant Agent, then unplug the stick and open the program you want to test. Alternately you can choose to have these programs not run when the computer starts so you manually choose which program runs at any given time.

To help out, the 405CX is expecting a file called trainingPlan.TCX to be uploaded to it
  • Test after the update just passed, they seemed to fix it on the mac
  • I have just Upgraded Garmin Express to 4.0.18.0 and the issue persists.
I cannot upload a calendar to the 405CX watch, whether there is 1 workout or multiple workouts.

I have removed the 405CX from Garmin Express, and "re-added"it, this does not fix the upload issue

    Hello all,

I am having exactly the same issue as the one described by leingang.

Honestly this is not acceptable from Garmin to say that multiple workouts can’t be sent on Forerunner 405, 405CX, and 410!
Having only 1 workout stored at a time is useless.
I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t afford to have to go and connect my watch to Garmin Express each time I want to program a dedicated workout (just imagine if you go on holidays with no PC for a week but still need to run 3 different workouts during that time. How would one do in that case?).

Plus, there used to be a workaround explained in the link below that used to function very well with the old version of the website Garmin Connect and the ANT Agent.

    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?25502-Upload-Multiple-Workouts

I have used that workaround just last month when preparing a marathon and using 4 different workouts (all stored at the same time in my Forerunner 405CX) and it worked fine!

But now, when connecting to Garmin Connect website, it doesn’t allow anymore to create Workouts with the old version of the website (which was part of the workaround) and force you to both create workout on the new website and use Garmin Express to do the transfer (instead of ANT Agent) and therefore prevent us from sending multiple workouts at the same time.

So please Garmin, do something very quickly to fix this issue and enable multiple workouts to be sent at the same time.
Or at least allow us to use the old version of the Garming connect website with the ANT agent, so that the workaround explained above can still be used!

We do still have a case open for this. In the meantime, you can create the workouts and add them to the calendar in Modern Connect and then send the calendar using Classic connect. Just make sure to select Calendar and not Workout from Classic so that you are not rerouted to Modern Connect.

    Jason
  • So https://connect.garmin.com/modern/calendar is broken, in the interim you can:
    1. Goto: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/calendar (the new website to add a workout)
2a. Goto: https://connect.garmin.com/calendar (the old site)
2b. Click on the "Right Arrow/Upload" icon to the right of [Week/Month/Day] icons, and choose "Send workouts to device" (as you have probably already being doing?)

    Hope this helps.

Edited: to remove the first two steps of deinstalling EXPRESS and re-installing ANT-AGENT as the issue is not with GarminExpress, but rather an issue with https://connect.garmin.com/modern/calendar

Jason suggests the same thing except there is no need to install ANT Agent.
