router wireless security vs wifi connection 920xt

hi,
my router is a Linksys WRT54GS. If I set the wireless security of the router to disable and my watch in garmin express at "open", I can transfer workouts with the wifi.
But if my usual router wireless security is on (WPA pre shared key) and the watch set at WPA with the good password, the wifi communication is impossible. The watch indicates that it can't find any network. I tried other security settings without success.
I never had any problem connecting phones, ipad or laptop to my network.
Can someone help me with this issue?

This sounds like a possible issue with the firmware on the router. Since the connection works when Wireless Security is turned off you can tell it is not the wifi software or chipset on the 920XT. The WRT54GS is older and there may be a firmware update available for it which resolves the WPA security issue. That being said, have you customized the Linksys wifi settings for any other devices? Does the router still broadcast the SSID when WPA is enabled? I suggest you look into a firmware update for the router and also look through the wifi forum for the Forerunner 620XT. The device problems will not be the same but the forum contains a lot of good information for trouble shooting the wireless router. Please contact Garmin Product Support by phone if you continue to have troubles or any other questions.

  • Hi guys,

My 920xt is not working on any of my TP-Link routers: TL-MR3420 and Archer C9

I have tried everything and changed bands and channels and turned of security, but all without any success.

How can I confirm the wifi component in the watch is faulty?

I am sorry for the troubles. I do not have a absolute procedure for identifying a faulting wifi component on the 920XT. I suggest you contact Garmin Support via phone where they can properly troubleshoot the issue and possible make arrangements to replace the device if needed.

Again I am sorry for the troubles.
