Express 4.0.11.0 fails to download a new map

well, I'm using it on a OSX 10.10 machine. It shows a new cycle map for my Edge Touring (2014.30 and a hefty 5,5 GB) which will take 44 hours ?!?!?!
I've started it but nothing happens! no progress.

30 Mbit Internet and a superfast SSD Mac Mini.

are there some Garmin servers down?

  • Sometimes that's a problem, and it's always worth trying again, but there seems to be a problem with Garmin Express Service (the background process that does the actual work). Recently I tried to update the City Navigator maps on my Nuvi 755T when the new ones came out. Multiple attempts over several days on my MacPro (mid-2010 8 core Xeon; I mention this because I think it might be important and I know Garmin employees read this forum, unlike most of the others) all failed in the same way: it started downloading, then gave increasing estimates of the time left to ridiculous values, then failed. Express no longer worked right after that. What I found was that GES was running wild, fully taking up two processors (of the 16 the OS sees), and something like 14 threads (right now sitting idle it shows 7). The only thing to do was to kill off GES and restart Express. Otherwise, Express on my MacPro has been working normally for things like activity transfers to Garmin Connect. I finally updated the maps on my Nuvi by connecting it to my MacBook Pro (mid-2014, 2 core i7) and there Express worked normally, and the update proceeded the first time I tried just as you would expect. So trying another Mac if you have one might be a good thing to try as well as trying again on your Mini.

PC version seems to work :-(

damn, the Express buttons are out of clickable range on a Air and also no progress.

Installing 4.0.13 on a Windows 10! machine works immediately! 2u38 minutes but time is increasing.
PC version also has an option: proxy settings "auto"?
Not available on the Mac version! very annoying differences!

If the buttons are outside of the clickable range, the resolution may be set low enough on your computer so that the dock covers them up. Just press Command + Option + D to temporarily hide the dock or set the resolution higher if possible. Once you have clicked the buttons that you need to click, just press Command + Option + D again to hide the dock or set the resolution back.
