Spinning Beach Ball Garmin Express v4.0.11.0

I recently installed Garmin Express v4.0.11.0 so I could update my maps. Without my Garmin even plugged into the USB I was getting the Spinning Beach Ball on my mac constantly. Almost every action caused the application to freeze and bring the spinning beach ball. The beach ball eventually goes away but only be followed up by a new one. I eventually got my maps to update but it was a frustrating experience.

Thinking that it was my computer, I uninstalled this release and installed a prior version 3.2.30.0. This release worked perfect as I had remembered with no issues. As soon as I updated the problems continued.

I also have to say that I enjoyed the prior release experience and features better. There seemed to be more options. I'm hopping these issues will go away and get fixed. Let me know if you need more information from my end.

I am sorry that you are having trouble with Garmin Express. I would try a fresh install of the latest version of Garmin Express after completely uninstalling the old version.

How do I completely uninstall Garmin Express?

Once Garmin Express is uninstalled, you can download the latest version here:
    http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.dmg

As far as features go, the interface has been completely redesigned so features are in different places than they used to be. What features are you unable to find?

As I mentioned, I tried all that. I had no issues or slowdowns with the previous interface. As soon as I update or install the latest version the issues arise. When the Beach Ball shows up it's only in the Garmin app that there are slowdowns. I can use the rest of my Mac and apps while I'm waiting for the beach ball to go away so I can continue. I'm not sure if the are any missing features because I haven't used it enough but my experience so far hasn't been possitive. I'm not sure if others are experiencing the same problem or not.
  • What hardware and software version? I have it running fine in 2 iMacs and a MacBook Pro without any problems

  • I have had occasions when the Garmin Express Service has not shutdown when I've quit GE. I only become aware of this when I attempt to restart it. The only way out (apart from a full system restart) has been to open up Activity Monitor and manually exit the process. It's been there through all versions.
  • Yes I had this. I started the Map Update, but my Edge 1000 somehow lost connection to my PC during "Step 1". After that GE showed the device was green, but with a constant spinning ball. Repeated attempts, same result.

I then stopped GE and deleted in Task Manger a remaining GE task. This had the effect of GE finding the device (i.e. a "tick" icon) and on restarting the Map Download, GE started from the beginning with "Accept bla bla" and the download (Step 2) started Ok.

So there is not a full clean-up when you stop GE.
