Garmin Express Problems on new Mac

Wondering if anyone here can help me...Have a new Mac and not able to connect Garmin Express to Garmin Connect for my Forerunner 310XT. Seems to install and pair to the device ok but when I go to sign in to Garmin Connect to transfer data, I get an error message saying “There was a problem connecting to the Garmin servers. We’re unable to sign you in because our servers are unavailable at this time.” Clearly a software issue but Garmin’s support team in Europe not listening and not helping at all (will not refer this to software team because I don’t have any logs for the device – of course I don’t the application has not installed properly)! Issue has been ongoing for days, product support is totally useless. If it isn’t fixed I will be giving the device away and buying a Suunto and saying bye bye to Garmin for good.
  • Since your computer is new (and a Mac), the following might not be useful but it's cheap.

I had the same issue and I uninstalled and then reinstalled the Garmin Connect stuff and it worked after that.
  • For you issue about connecting to servers, one of the problems causing that has been the wrong timezone and time/date on the PC or Mac attempting to connect.

Afraid this does not work - have uninstalled and re-installed about 12-15 times, same problem.

what do you mean by timezone and time/date? These are correctly configured and also match up to my location in Garmin Connect. Is there something I am missing here?

If the troubleshooting in our FAQ What should I do if I receive a server error while using Garmin Express? does not resolve the server error, it is typically caused by corruption in the system information that the Forerunner 310XT is sending to Garmin Express. The device will need to be deleted from Garmin Express and Garmin Connect (this will not remove any data already uploaded to Garmin Connect), then master reset. Here are our FAQs on how to do these steps:

How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?

How do I master reset my Forerunner 310XT?

After the master reset, the device should pair and sync properly with Garmin Express and Garmin Connect. If you are still experiencing problems, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

I am quite convinced this is a software issue (why won't the software team just look into it?!!):

-The information in the FAQ does not help

-I am able to upload data perfectly fine via PC (I have an old PC that I will retire soon) so the issue is not corruption in the system information. As the device is not on Garmin Express yet on my Mac, I cannot remove it anyway. So I don't think that a master reset will help.

This is the same advice as I got from Product Support - afraid they are not helpful and not willing to look into it as a software issue

    Grateful if anyone can help!
  • Not sure what you mean when you say it's clearly a software issue? Perhaps you could explain that?

I was having the same trouble with my 310XT. I performed a Master Reset as specified above and that seemed to work. The frequency of the necessity of a master reset is VERY annoying. Each time it is 15-20 minutes to get my 310 back to how I wanted it. Not to mention the fact that if you had to perform it to fix upload problems you just lost all your data.

Oh well . . I'm hoping Garmin Express is the answer going forward. We've been through Garmin Training Center, MyGarmin, Garmin Web Updater, and now have Express. Can we focus on solving all the bugs in this one and moving forward with it instead of coming out with something new every couple years?

Ok - performed a master reset and that seems to have done the trick, but of course I have to reset all the specifications on my Garmin and I lost my last workout which did not sync. Happy that it seems to be working now (until the next glitch!) - but Garmin Express is certainly very buggy (this is the 3rd or 4th issue I have had with it - have had problems once every 2 months or so syncing data). I wish there was also a secondary way to upload data from my device to my computer as a backup. Oh well. Thanks to those who offered advice here. Until next time......

Ben it will be interesting to see if any subsequent uploads using Express work. I spent an inordinate amount of time yesterday trying to make Express work. I got it installed and updated my 3 Garmin devices (perhaps my last 3 if Garmin doesn't get it's software working properly) but then after a long run yesterday afternoon, it wouldn't sync and my run wouldn't upload from my 310. I finally had to re-install the ANT agent, set Express to be manual only (so I can update s/w in the future), and then after much fooling around last night and this morning got the run to finally start showing up in Garmin Connect.

Bottom line . . I won't be bothering with Garmin Express until they work this stuff out. My data is the only reason I have my watch. If I have to delete it to make the software work that doesn't do me any good at all.
