There was an error installing the update.

Each time I try to install map updates, after a few minutes I get the message "There was an error installing the update."

Device: Garmin Nuvi 765
Software: Garmin Express 4.0.8.0
OS: Mac OS X Yosemite
Hard Disk Space Available: 44GB

Device shows as connected and I have attempted reboots, clearing trash and closing open applications.
No other information is provided so i am stomped. I suspect it is stopping during the download process.
Any help would be appreciated.

That error message was corrected in an updated version of Express. This is why we suggest using the newest version of Express. Granted, in a lot of situations, any given version of Express has a potential to work. When receiving errors, we will always suggest updating to the newest version as a first step.

Thank you but per my original post the latest version give me the error in the thread title "There was an error installing the update." with no added info. It would be great if you could advise what the possible issue could be.

In the meantime Garmin support has suggested the following steps. I have not tried it yet as I am currently installing the map with yet another version of Garmin Express that successfully downloaded and built the map. It has been installing on my device at snails pace overnight and this morning was at 67%. Will let you all know if this works or the procedure below.

To remove the temporary files from your computer, you will need to follow the below steps.

Open Finder
Click Go (at the top of the menu bar)
Select Home
Click Go (at the top of the menu bar)
Click Go to Folder
Type Library
Click Go button
Click Caches
Garmin
Drag these files to Trash
Empty the Trash

Success. Garmin 3.2.27.0 installed the latest map update for me, even if it took almost 24 hours to do so.
