Garmin 405CX pairing/sync issue

I haven't uploaded the data from my Garmin 405CX since mid-January and on Sunday I could not get my watch to sync at all.
I updated the software to version 2.40 and I am told that now the software is up to date.

Now when I try to sync I get the error message "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect" and I am asked to pair my device again. Pairing is set to Yes, however when I am asked to accept the pairing, it seems to switch off pairing and nothing happens. This has now happened on several occasions and I cannot force send the data either.

Is anyone experiencing the same issue? I have followed the steps for the online help but it is not solving the issue.
