Garmin Express - Resource Hog and Poor Downloads

*sigh*

Every time I get an update map for my Zumo i have to fight with this travesty of software called Garmin Express. How a simple downloader can consume +30% of CPU cycles and be unable to download a damned file to my computer is beyond me.

I'm TRYING to update to AUNZ 2015.40 for both device and computer but alas the program would rather consume CPU cycles whilst it sits there and says ">3hours remaining..." and "There was a problem communicating with the Garmin servers. Please Try again later." It does this every time.

You guys really need to fix this or at least give us the option of downloading the files directly from your servers for self installation. Or let me update via BaseCamp!

I love my Zumo but this support software is rubbish.

Oh and yes I've read through ALL the posts here and followed all your supposed advice. Plus I'm not an idiot so don't say it's my firewall.

What are the specs on your Mac? On my mini Express doesn't pull anything over 10% and normally sits at 0 when idle, and 4ish% when actively using it. That being said though, if you are having problems communicating with servers it is normally a internet connection/time related issue. If you have followed all the instructions in the following article, I would suggest contacting support:
What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client?

Thanks Albert, I must admit I was on a bit of tirade when I wrote that post. My iMac is a 27" mid 2010 i7 with 16GB. When the program is downloading normally it runs smoothly but as soon as the program stops downloading mid transfer, like you say there is something happening with the communication to the servers, that's when the CPU starts to run at 20-30%. I ended up waiting a few days and trying again and there was an Express update (program looks a lot nicer now) and the bootcamp map downloaded fine, slowly but fine and I then transferred this map to my Zumo using the MapUpdater, all good!

Next time I'll just wait a week or so after the update is announced.

Thanks for the help and for putting up with an irate customer :D
