Garmin Express won't sync/upload activities from 310XT

I purchased a 310XT last December and have not been able to load any of my activities. My device is paired and detected by the ANT. The "sync" starts and appears to make progress but nothing actually happens. I have tried on both a Mac and Windows laptop to no avail. I have tried unistalling/reinstalling to no avail.

Please help.

    Hello Eric,

Make sure data transfer is "on" = Enabled > Yes. Owners manual page 34.

You could also try "Send All Data". Owners manual page 34.

I have the same problem. It happened after a software update today.

I am sorry that you are having trouble syncing your device. Did you try to resend the activities as DATEZZ suggested? You can find instructions here: How can I resend my history from my wireless watch to my computer?

  • Hi,
I'm also experiencing a lot of issues with my 310XT on my macs lately. The last days I've tried:

    1. the new garmin express
    2. ant agent

    and failed with both

with garmin express the app finds and pairs with my 310XT without problems. But when I come to the step of signing into my account I get told that "There was a problem connecting to the Garmin servers. We're unable to sign you in because our servers are unavailable at this time." But going to the website is OK, and uploading from my 620 is not an issue. Just together with the 310XT.

With the Ant agent I spent 1 hour 45 minutes uploading data and then with about 15 minutes left it says "upload fail".

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    best regards
    Stefan

Have the files have been saved to the computer? If the files have been saved to the computer, you can manually import them into Connect only you would navigate to the file location on the computer and not the device. These two FAQs will assist you with this:

Where do my activities go on the computer before they are uploaded to Garmin Connect?

How do I manually upload data from USB Mass Storage devices to Garmin Connect?

If the files fail to import, they may be corrupted. This posting on the Garmin Cycling/Edge 800 forum provides information on fixing a corrupt .fit file: How to Fix a Corrupt File.

The device may need to be master reset to clear off corrupted data.

Or you can contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

  • I'm having a similar issue. It's syncing and just dumping the data. It's not being saved onto the Mac, and it's being stripped from the watch. I'm having to manually add data into Connect now before I try to sync because it will be lost.
  • Phew, a few days later, several attempts with Ant agent and uploading for a couple of hours and finally on the seventh attempt from yet another computer I managed to finalize download of old training sessions from the 310XT to the computer. Then manually upload of new sessions to Garmin connect and now a hard reset of the watch. A test session of 10 seconds and now Garmin Express allows me to sign in to garmin connect and upload the test session.

But I still have issues the other way around - I altered my pulse zones online on Garmin connect, click the synchronize now button on the left hand side in the new interface, but Garmin Express fails to send this to my 310XT. So I have to manually alter the pulse zones directly on the 310XT instead.

I too am getting the error message when trying to synch my 310XT. Only on the Mac with Yosemite. Get the server error message when I try to sign on with my account, which is valid on my PC. Not a password or user id issue. Not a setting in security or firewall. Not being blocked by any anti-virus. It is a problem with Garmin Express. I have deleted and reinstalled 3 times. Cleanly. If I use ANT agent, it will only save the history to disk, and requires a manual upload to get the data into connect.garmin - mind you, using the user id and password that gets the server error message while setting up.

HEY GARMIN - how about some clear fixes/instructions for how to get this thing working? None of the solutions posted work. All seemed to be aimed at neophyte users errors rather than addressing the appearance of a software glitch! Is it a case of MAC users need not try Garmin? I am successfully used your products on a Windows PC, but I am shutting down that system. Please help us.
  • I have Garmin Express 4.0.11.0 working fine on Mac OS X 10.10.2 with both a Forerunner 610 and a Forerunner 620. When I try to connect my Forerunner 310XT everything goes fine until I get to the 'Garmin Connect Account' page. I click on 'Sign In', type in my username and password, and get a message 'There was a problem connecting to the Garmin servers. We're unable to sign you in because our servers are unavailable at this time'. This message is obviously incorrect because I can immediately go and connect with the Garmin servers using the Forerunner 610. This problem seems to be specific to the 310XT. Until this is fixed my 310XT is useless.

There is a certain issue that sometimes occurs with the 310XT where it will send a corrupt garmindevice.xml to the computer. The only way to stop the watch from sending this corrupt xml is to master reset the device.

If you have data on the watch that you need to recover first, you should be able to sync with ANT Agent before resetting it. Just make sure to quit Garmin Express by right-clicking the tray icon and choosing Quit prior to using ANT Agent and uninstall ANT Agent when you are finished. Both applications will try to take control of the ANT stick which will cause issues. You may also need to disconnect and reconnect the ANT Stick in between using each application.
