Cannot download a Purchased map

Ok, there are a few posts on this but none really answer.

Setup:
I am on a MAC and have Garmin Express, LT Map updater and Map Install. I am using Safari as an browser.

I have a Garmin Zumo 660 and have Europe LM currently installed. So I have installed maps before.

The issue
I purchased North America LM yesterday and I cannot download the maps.

I am following the process of:

1: Go to My Maps in Garmin account and add purchased MAP to device in the pulldown. This just takes me to another page that says Good News you have the latest maps… and then a prompt to download Garmin Express. I already have Garmin Express.

2: Garmin express does not show the North American Maps. I assume that this is because I have not associated them with my device. as tried in 1 above. As a side note: Clicking the the prompt takes you to a 404 page.

As mentioned, I did not have a problem when I originally downloaded the European maps last year so I can only assume that Garmin's System is completely broken at the moment?

Any help from Garmin Appreciated.
  • Sounds like an issue with your account. I've always found UK support very quick to reply. Have you tried calling them?

Incidentally you say you have lifetime updater installed? Express replaced that so I'd uninstall that in case it's conflicting somehow.
  • Thanks Sussams,

I had installed the Lifetime updater to check if I could update using that instead so the environment was just Express before that so I don't think it will be a conflict.

The main thing is I think that I cannot associate the New Maps with the device on their website so that is why Express is not picking it up. Either that or the purchase takes some time to associated for express,

Like you say, it could be an issue with the account so I will wait for a reply or search for the phone number and phone them.

It's just frustrating that buying and downloading something is so convoluted in how it's managed.
  • Agreed. Normally it isn't. ... afraid you're one of the unlucky ones.

I am sorry about the trouble downloading your map. It appears that you were able to successfully download it today. Please post another message to this thread if you are still having trouble. I will be monitoring this forum throughout the day (until about 8 hours from now).

  • I did and thanks.

Can I ask another question though. I have now download the map to an eternal SD card.

Can you explain how I can get this onto the Garmin?

Garmin Express does not show as an available map to change to so I assume I will need to import from the downloaded files?

I have tried simply plugging in the SD card with the North America Maps but Garmin Express then just shows the UK/Ireland maps being installed.

As a secondary question. Can I add both the Europe Map and North America map to the Garmin?

    Many thanks,

    Paul
  • I doubt if both would fit but check free space on your Zuma and size of map. If it will move it to your Zumo. Needs to be in a folder named map.

Your Zumo should though read it off the card. Does it not show in MapInfo or myMaps? Sorry can't recall which it is on your GPS.
  • I think (know) I may be being stupid here.

If I download directly to an SD card, It seems I can simply swap the SD card?

I have been expecting to have to install via Garmin Express or MapInstall but it seems that this is not the case.

After plugging in the SD card with the USA img file on it, it seems that that is all I need to do?

I have been following instructions online regarding Mapinstall and Garmin express but it looks like it is as simple as switching the SD card.

You are correct. Your device will load any maps that it finds on the internal memory or the SD card as long as they are in the correct location. If you install the map to the card, once you put the card in the device, the map will be read.

  • The moral is: Don't take the tutorials too literally :)

Still not sure why Garmin Express does not show North America as loaded but as it seems to work on the device itself I am not too bothered.

This is normal. Garmin Express will not display downloadable content because these types of maps cannot be updated in Garmin Express. Only preloaded maps and maps purchased on a DVD can be updated.
