910xt - lost training data while sync

Hi All,

Today I was trying to transfer my trainings from the whole week from my 910XT to my Mac. During the transfer (Garmin Express was showing some progress then stopped) my watch turned off, transfer bar stopped, but there was no error message. I tried to turn on the watch to continue the transfer, but it happened again - after couple of seconds the watch turned off again. After couple of attempts I killed the app and opened it again. The same situation again...
After couple of attempts I got the message in the application that everything is synced and transferred to Garmin Connect. But when I logged in, I only found one training from the whole week and there should be 8. I haven't found files in the upload folder on Mac with all the other training files. Also, the training are gone from the the watch, in the activities history.

Is there any chance that I can somehow get my trainings back? Also, is there anything that I can do to not have the same problem in the future? Help would be really appreciated!

I love the watch, but the syncing on Mac seriously sucks since introducing Garmin Express...

Thanks,
Jarek

I've had the exact same thing happen yesterday and today , lost 3 workouts so far .... hoping there is a solution to this any ideas so far?
  • Can anyone just confirm one thing: as I cannot find the setting in the GE for Mac to keep the files in the watch after the sync, is this on by default? Does it mean that the file should stay somewhere in the watch?
If so, pushing all the data from the watch to GE should solve the problem or not?

I am sorry that you are having trouble syncing your 910xt. As long as you are using the latest version of Garmin Express, the option to delete activities automatically has been removed so you can normally force send the activities to get them to send. Unfortunately, if they are no longer on the device there will be nothing to send.

Also, make sure that you have checked both ~user/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/UnitID/Upload and ~user/Library/Application Support/Garmin/GarminConnect/UnitID/Upload. The first path is where the files are moved to after a sync is complete. The second is where they are initially transferred to prior to sending them to Garmin Connect.

  • Jason,

thank you for your help. I am using the newest version of GE and I was able to find my files under ~user/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/PendingSyncUploads/Activities. I did have to add the *.fit extension to the file names, but after that I could successfully upload them to the Garmin Connect. Do I have to say that I'm very happy that I was able to get the files back? :) Yaay! :)

To all having the same problem: look in the folder under the path as above. The unitID seems not to match what is on my watch, but the files do match my trainings! Remember to change the files extensions and you will be good to go.

    Hope it helps :)

    Thanks,

Lost my data too. I can't find the path. There isn't any Garmin/Express (...) in my mac. Where can i find the workouts?

    Thanks

The path is hidden. Our FAQ Where do my activities go on the computer before they are uploaded to Garmin Connect? contains detailed instructions on locating that folder location.
