Forerunner 310XT syncing problems

Former Member

Don't understand why (since last successful sync on 8 Jan 2015) my 310XT insists I have over 100 items to sync.

I was getting problems with it wanting to update to 4.5 and me wanting it to sync my January activities: neither activity would complete. In FRUSTRATION I then did a hard reset - and then the even 'harder' factory reset (non-prompted master reset) that I found online (see below) which appeared to clear everything off completely. I had to set it up again with language, time etc.

This enabled me to get the Garmin Express 4.5 uploaded.

But, today, tried two little walks of half a mile each. And I STILL CANNOT transfer data. Express says there are 117 to sync. I deleted one of the walks, and now it is trying to sync 116. No idea what these hundreds of items are. Express just gets stuck on 'less than 1 minute remaining' and then never moves (even overnight).

Any suggestions.
I was really sorry to lose all my 'New Year's Resolution runs' in January - and now still cannot get it to work.
I really am thinking one of these days I might just jump on this gadget.
Help.
PS: this is the first time I have posted on this forum.

This is the reset I did (seemed to work)
(2012)There is also a non-prompted master reset which will definitely clear all your data off, and according to one of the Garmin engineers on the Connect forum can clear things which aren't cleared by the resets Phil described:
Non-prompted non-vol clear:
The unit must be turned off. Press and hold the LAP/RESET button then press and release the POWER button to turn the unit on. Now press and hold the ENTER and MODE buttons while continuing to hold the LAP/RESET button. Release the LAP/RESET button and the unit will reboot (it will look like it turns off). Wait a couple of seconds and then release the ENTER and MODE buttons. The unit will boot up again with a clear non-vol.

Try the follow method to reset the device: How do I master reset my Forerunner 310XT?

Yes, have done master reset, several times. Still seems to have over a 100 activities to sync - and can never complete syncing them all.
    Any other suggestions?
  • Sometimes Garmin files are corrupted and then the upload stalls trying to upload those files. Garmin syncs your watch to a local folder and keeps them there to try and sync. over and over again, stopping your queue. They might be salvageable but you have to do some digging.
You can find them in this location:
    Mac: Macintosh HD/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Devices/[device id]/History
I would suggest to move all your files to a sub folder or elsewhere. It's pretty easy to see what you last ones were as they are timestamped. You can try to manually upload the b0rked files or contact Garmin to help fix them. I think there are also some tools available online to do that for you.
Now, with an empty folder there is nothing to block your sync. Make a new workout on your watch, just start it for a couple of seconds, and try to sync again. It should work now.

You can check the folder that onemanegine suggested in case there are old files from using ANT Agent but Garmin Express does not store the files here. The files that Garmin Express has queued up to send to Garmin Connect are in ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/Registered Devices/[UnitID]/Upload. If there are corrupt file here, the easiest way to resolve this is to remove the device from Garmin Express and repair it.

Also make sure that Garmin Express is up to date (v3.2.29). The v4.50 that you mentioned was the 310xt's firmware update.
