Garmin Express can not find my Garmin Monterra on a Mac

There seems to be a problem with Garmin Express recognizing the Garmin Monterra on an Apple computer. One would think that the most expensive handheld outdoor device would be supported on such a common platform.

Are there any plans for fixing this?
  • Well it may not be an issue at the Garmin end?

Yes, I have read that and tried those things. At the same time, Garmin Basecamp finds my device so the problem must lie in how Garmin Express accesses the devices.
Well it's not a super important thing, I can always buy a computer running windows if I want to update the GPS-firmware.
What is more pressing are the big pile of bugs in the monterra, like the broken trip computer, or the broken satellite app.
I will just secretly hope that Garmin gets a wider platform support for their devices, Macs are not uncommon these days.
  • Must be like my old 60CSx. BaseCamp sees it, Express does not. But the Monterra is a modern device, and Express should be able to see it. Does it show up on your Desktop as a disk?

So far as updating it goes, go to http://garmin.com/osx and get a copy of WebUpdater. That should be able to see the Monterra as well.

The Monterra is not currently compatible with Garmin Express on the Mac as it is an MTP-only device. There is no need to use Garmin Express to update the firmware since the device has built-in WiFi and can be updated directly without connecting it to the computer:
How do I update the software on my Monterra?
