I've successfully updated this GPS with Garmin Express about 1 year ago, but something is now broken. Here is what I see:
Garmin Express starts up, sees that there are updates for my Nuvi and downloads them.
I connect my nuvi to my Mac via USB (direct to the Mac, no hubs etc.).
Garmin Express fails to auto detect the Nuvi. If I try to link it manually, I get the same result.
Behavior of Nuvi: When first plugged into Mac, I get the green progress bar across the screen and then the computer connection icon (I'm assuming this means it is in "PC mode").
After the software fiasco described above, the Nuvi then boots into normal GPS mode. I get this behavior if I connect the Nuvi before I boot up Garmin Express or in reverse order.
I've also attempted to connect with all other forms of Garmin Mac software (mapinstall, map manager, web updater, nada for all of them).
…this really should not be this hard Garmin.
Hope someone out there has some ideas for making this work.
