nuvi 3490 not recognized by computer

Hi, I have been trying to update my nuvi 3490 but both my windows and mac computers are not able to detect the device. When I run Garmin Express it shows that there are some updates but when I start downloading them it tells me the device is not connected.
I have now deleted the device from Garmin Express on my Mac and tried to install it again but my computer is still not able to detect it.
Can you help? Thanks
