"The device being updated is full" on 4-week-old 920xt

I have a nearly brand-new 920xt, which I sync using a Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.1 and Garmin Express 3.2.28.0. The other day I downloaded 3 apps from the app store and tried to sync them. Sync failed repeatedly. Now when I try to sync, I get the error message "The device being updated is full. Please try again." When I click the Sync button, I get an error popup telling me that "Nearly Old School" (watchface) and "Graphical Heart Rate" couldn't be installed or updated. "To install or update these apps," the dialog says, "you'll need to manage the apps that are installed on your device," but there's no way I can see in Express to do that.
  • Fact you're using a mac ... are you sure your trash is empty?

In order for the apps to work on the 920XT, you must be running the Beta version of unit software for the 920XT (v2.64). A full version that supports the apps has not yet been released. To install the Beta version, please visit the following page:
    http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=7627

Once you have installed the Beta version, quit Garmin Express from the Black triangle in your Menu bar and reopen the application. Once your device syncs, you will notice that there is a new section at the bottom of the updates screen for managing your apps.

I'm running the beta firmware Version 2.64 on my watch, Garmin Express v3.2.29.0, latest OSX Yosemite updates and am getting the same error message. I'm trying to sync a 10kb data field and Garmin Express is reporting 512kb free. For what it's worth, finder reports 94mb free on the device when it's plugged in as a USB mass data storage device.

The capacity of a Forerunner 920XT is only 11.4 MB. Double check the capacity of the Forerunner 920XT in Finder. Select the volume in Finder then use the Get Info command. You also might check for files in the Garmin/Apps/ folder on the 920XT when it is connected. Throw any files in the folder in the Trash, then Empty the Trash while the 920XT is connected. Delete the device from Express and Connect, then add it back again. Try downloading one data field to the watch. Make sure your connecting the USB clip to a USB port on the back or side of the Mac. Avoid external USB hubs or keyboard USB ports.

  • I am experiencing the same problem. I am using a Garmin Forerunner 920XT w/ ver. 2.64 and Garmin Express 3.2.29. This problem existed in 3.2.26 and 3.2.28 as well. I tried deleting the plist files in the ~/Library/Preferences and the files in the ~/Library/Caches and ~/Library/Application Support. The Trash is empty. I am connected directly to a MacBook Pro. Please advise.
  • Getting same response as well. Using Forerunner 920XT with ver. 2.64 and Garmin Express 3.2.29. Have 10mb free on device, no apps on device which is saying it has 512K available. Nothing in apps folder. Deleted device from express and closed it. Restarted and added new device. Still the same error message.
  • I am sorry that you all are still having this trouble. We have opened a case on this as this feature is still not working on the Mac. It is currently working on the PC version of Garmin Express and hopefully the Mac version will be fixed shortly.

  • This issue is resolved in the 3.2.30 Express Client for Mac. To upgrade to the latest version, Check for Application Updates by clicking “About Garmin Express” from the menu bar or download the latest version from http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.dmg
  • Same trouble as the rest, even on latest version

I'm on version 3.2.30 and I see the same message, "The device being updated is full". My 920 is around 2 weeks old. In addition, the Wifi stopped working recently.
