310XT Will not sync. Express shows activity from Dec 30, 1989 + new Activity.

There's only one activity on my device, a run from today. However when I try to sync with Express, I see the following:

Both the FIT_TYPE_4 and FIT_TYPE_9 folders on my Mac are empty. Any advice on how I can get today's workout off of my device would be appreciated.

The sync times out, and then Express stops running in the background. I've rebooted and actually installed a fresh copy on a different Mac, same deal. Very frustrating.
  • I was able to recover my workout, with some digging. Per this post here:

    support.garmin.com/.../case.faces

I found a file with no extension in /users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/(unitid)/PendingSyncUploads

It looked like a .FIT file (the filename was simply "2015-01-04 19/59/20 +0000_18"), so I renamed it to .fit and was able to manually upload it to Strava. Oddly, once I cleared the PendingSyncUploads fit type folders of uploads, as soon as I re-sync with Express the file with the 1989 name comes back. It's named "1989-12-31 00/00/00 +0000_65535".

What I'd really like to see from Express is simply a "copy files to my computer" button. It's ridiculous that every time something comes up with this (like the DST debacle a few months back after the Philly Marathon) we have to dig around all sorts of obscure locations to get our workout data. Garmin, please accept the fact that many of us use your devices, but not Connect for our primary workout service. Lots of us prefer Strava, MFP, Runkeeper and sites like it, and would simply like an easy way to get the data off of our GPS devices and on to our machines in a format that we can use.

Hopefully the above (before my rant...) helps anyone having a similar problem today.

It looks like they may be having a problem with their website today. I uploaded a run from today and it uploaded to garmin training center but would not upload to garmin connect. I tried to do it manually and got "internal server error". Hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow.
  • I have the same issue - Mac OSX (10.9.4), Macbook Pro early 2011, Garmin 310XT. It works on a PC laptop (Windows 8). On the Macbook Pro (my main machine) it allows me to pair the device. The watch says "Transferring Data" and then it displays this error message - "We're Sorry... There's a problem with our servers, which means that Express is temporarily unavailable. We're working as fast as we can to get it back up and running. Please try again later."

This has been like this for two months and I have lost count of the number of times I have tried. Please can you investigate because without it working I have a useless lump of plastic and electronics (310XT).

I have tried CQUIGS7 approach but there are no pending uploads in /users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/(unitid)/PendingSyncUploads

How else can I upload my data from my 310XT to the servers?

I also have my long run (20 miles) from today as the only activity but there is an upload which is labelled "Weight" with date/time of 31 Dec 1989 00:00. Not sure if this part is relevant, as I can only see this on my PC not on my Macbook Pro.

I had this exact message a few weeks back, and it was only fixed by doing a Master Reset of the 310XT - alas you loose all the contents and personalisation, but the watch syncs. OK again.

Keep getting the same error with a forerunner 610, keep getting the 30 dec 1989 file and it won't upload any training sessions after that date, already did a reset on the watch thus losing my data. Problem still not solved. Also tried to empty the Fit folders, but without result. Does anyone at Garmin have an idea? Really frustrating after the reverse charging issues that I know have this issue.
Also have a tanita weight scale, so weighed myself again hoping this would override the date but still no succes.
