Mac Not Recognizing or Connecting to Forerunner 920xt

A couple days ago I plugged my forerunner 920xt into the computer. The 920 gets the charging and usb screen like it normally does when plugged into the computer. The computer acts like it isn't plugged in though. Nothing happens on the computer at all. If I open finder the 920 isn't even listed like an external drive. When I disconnect the 920 it is basically frozen. I have to hold down the power button for a while to get it to turn off then I turn it back on and everything seems fine. I don't know what to do. I have tried uninstalling Garmin Express and reinstalling it but that doesn't seem to be helping. I also tried "adding a new device" in Garmin Express and it also acts like I don't have anything plugged in. Very annoyed. I sync with Garmin Connect through my phone mostly so it isn't huge deal but I don't like that it isn't working. I also have never been able to get the wifi on the watch to work. What should I do?!
  • Philip,

I definitely don't want you(or anyone else) to do something you don't know how to do or want to do. I only documented what worked for me. By all means if you can make it work another way go for it. The main reason for my update was to highlight the fact that the 920XT is not at fault, even though testing appeared to make it the culprit.

My original advice still stands however for booting into Recovery mode, which is a non-destructive activity, and test making the USB connection with your watch. If it works, and works every time, then you can be assured that you have a software problem on your Apple computer, and not a problem with your watch.

This method (booting into recovery mode) did not work for me, thus it's an issue, in my case, with my unit and not with software. I booted into recovery mode and safe mode, and was unsuccessful in both situations.

Curiously, I tried on my wife's computer and was able to connect to the 920. Unfortunately, I tried downloading the new GPS Chipset update and it failed once before I got it to send.

i will try the App Delete and see if that does anything for me.
