Garmin Express Servers Not Working for Forerunner 10?

Hi
I have a new Forerunner 10 and I can't get it to sync to my Garmin Connect using Garmin Express. I had a forerunner 405 before which I have now replaced with this 10, and I have Garmin Express installed already which I use for my Nuvi. When I connect my new Forerunner 10 to my macbook using my USB cable, Garmin Express immediately recognizes it as a new device and asks me if I want to add it, so no problems there. Then it asks if I want to create a new Garmin Connect account or sync the Forerunner 10 to an existing account, so I click on existing account, enter my details, and that's where it fails, giving me the "We're sorry there's a problem with our servers" error. My partner was able to install Garmin Express on her Macbook and set her Forerunner up with no problems without getting this error message.

I have done some google searching about this error and it seems to be a common problem for other watches? I followed some of the suggested steps to resolve it, including changing my Garmin Connect password and resetting my Forerunner 10 watch to factory settings (hence losing my settings and my one run) and then tried to sync again but no joy. I even tried reinstalling Garmin Express, but still no joy.

Any suggestions are most welcome

See notes on the other thread below (in the forum list) about the same problem - a number of members are now reporting getting this message when trying to "Add" a new device ! You are, alas, not alone.

So does this mean I would need to get a new computer just for syncing my forerunner 10? A computer for each device? I hope Garmin are able to resolve this quickly, it's rather frustrating not being to use Express and getting the "problem with our servers" error when I know for a fact the servers are fine because my partner's watch is syncing on her computer just fine, all because I used my computer to set up the Nuvi when we bought it, so now I can't sync my forerunner 10 :(

Connect is currently down and we have pulled the 3.2.26 version of Express. Please uninstall that version and install the 3.2.25 version from the following location:
    http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html

As connect is down you will still be unable to sync until it is restored. I apologize for the inconvenience.

I uninstalled 2.3.26 and installed 2.3.25 using the link you provided, and now Garmin Express won't load at all. It just sits in "loading device information" in perpetuity. Do you have another solution?

And when I reinstalled from the link you provided, and pulled up "About Garmin Express" it's saying it's version 3.2.21.0. What gives?

Here's a screenshot of both the current version of Garmin Express (as downloaded directly from your link), as well as the "loading device information" screen that has been up since I opened the program after uninstalling and reinstalling the (supposedly) lower version number:

Was that a typo? Did you mean Garmin Express Version 3.2.25.0? That's what I currently have.

I think it was a typo.

I actually didn't have any luck with the package I downloaded from their link. When I uninstalled and re-installed from the package downloaded from that link, it would get stuck in "loading device" and never finish. I tried uninstalling, re-downloading (from their link), and then reinstalling from that package. Same result. Never ending "loading device" screen.

What finally worked for me was uninstalling (again), and then installing from a previous download of their software on my hard drive (July's update, I think). Then when I loaded the program, it required me to update, I ran that (with much fear that it was the problem update), and it finally loaded correctly. Hallelujah. That older package plus an update finally got rid of the never ending "loading device" screen caused by the download from their link.

So if you can get their download to install and load correctly, go for it. If not, try uninstalling and reinstalling from one of your previous update downloads on your hard drive. Just do a search on "Garmin", and they're usually .dmg files. :-)

If you continue to have troubles with Garmin Express from last Thrusday/Friday you can uninstall Express then download and install the correct version from here, http://connect.garmin.com/en-US/start/.

Does this mean I will lose all the settings for my Nuvi and have to set it up again?
  • Changing Express has no effect on your nuvi.
