310XT new sync error, retry successful, thereafter activity missing in Connect

Hi guys

Going a bit desperate here. My last successful activity sync from my Forerunner 310XT is from Fri, 31 Oct 2014 13:02.
I've had a training session after this and got the following experience:
1) Started sync via Garmin Express
2) Garmin Express shows the error message "Sorry, some files from this device couldn’t be synced with Garmin Connect"
3) I've hit the retry button
4) Garmin Express indicates that activity has been successfully synced and is available in Garmin Connect
5) No sync was actually performed as:
. there is no new activity in Garmin Connect :(
. any local application on the Mac (e.g. Rubitrack) syncing with the device won't detect any new activity

What I've tried so far, which proved unsuccessful:
a) Removed device from Garmin Express, added device again and re-synched: no new activities are detected
b) Uninstalled Garmin Express, installed it again, device information was already present, synched, same result
c) Repeated b) with the added action that I've removed any Garmin Express configuration from the Mac: had to add device again, same result
d) Created a new activity on the device (on Nov 2nd evening), synced using Garmin Express, had the same exact behaviour as described from 1 to 5, i.e. error at start, success at retry, no new activities on Connect, i.e. neither the initial one neither the one created now

Help!!!!

Same problem since yesterday. The activity was in pending uploads and I could upload the file manually. Syncing does not work.
  • How could you upload the file manually? Can you provide instructions?

u can find the file in ~user/library/garmin/garmin express/..... (Not 100% sure, not at my mac right now). There is a subfolder under your devices called something like penidng uploads, there I found the file, had to add the "fit" extension, then I could upload it.
  • exactly the same thing has happened to me. I have deleted all other activities but it still won't recognise the workout. I have tried to look on my mac to see the pending uploads but cannot find it?
  • We have another thread with the information you are looking for. Find it here

Let me know if you can find the files on the computer. As we were having problems syncing yesterday I am trying to look at if it somehow marked those activities as already synced but never actually sent them and now won't unless we do it manually.

  • I found the location based on a_laubner's input (thanks!), which corresponds to the location of your post Albert. The files were not there, the folder contained only a 5 second workout which corresponded to one of my tries to create a new "dummy" activity (labeled as option d above).

How I solved the problem in the meantime: went into History on the device, Data Transfer, and enabled "Transfer All". Took a long time to sync after but the activity was successfully uploaded.

I had however the poor experience in the past that enabling this option makes the device upload all activities from now on (which is cumbersome due to the time it takes). Any instructions to sync only the deltas again would be highly appreciated - other than hard reseting the device (which is what I had to do last time).

I am happy to hear that you got it taken care of. While I am not really a device guy, I did call our fitness department and they informed me that the 310XT should only perform the 'transfer all' one time, or until it successfully sends all of the activities. You shouldn't have to perform the reset.
