Problem Connecting To The Server

Hi All,

Got a new Garmin Nuvi 2559 LM yesterday, installed Garmin Express and ran the update checker, before even using it. (And yes I've got the latest version of Garmin Express)

There were a few updates (software, etc) and also a Map update - 'Western Europe 2015.30'.

I kept getting the error message "There was a problem communicating with the Garmin Servers. Please try again.".

So I decided to let the 2559 find a Satellite and set itself to the correct time, as it might help.

Bingo, it worked....well so I thought. Left it on overnight but it obviously stopped at some point, leaving it stuck on 58%.

If I click retry the speed will countdown from a ridiculously high speed (like 300MB/s) all the way down - but it will just get stuck and won't download.

My internet speed is very slow, often 1-1.2MB/s

I'm using a 2011 iMac running Yosemite. I've tried it both off Wifi and plugging the ethernet cable in.

I'm really not impressed if I'm honest...

Thanks,

James

I should point out the Software updates worked fine, it is the Map Update causing the issue...

I just tried cancelling the download, force quitting the Express software, turning my 2559 on and then reconnecting my Garmin 2559 to my iMac.

Now it is 'Checking for Updates' - but its been doing this for 5 minutes with nothing coming up?!

I'm starting to lose patience now, as quite frankly this should work without any issues at all.

I'm going to try it on a Windows PC later BUT I shouldn't have to.
  • Problems like this are invariably de to a problem with the users PC/mac/ISP ... check in particular a program isn't blocking the download, perhaps your AV, firewall, ghostery etc

No other programs are open on my computer.

I don't have any Antivirus/firewall software - just what is provided with Apple Macs.

So in reality they software should be designed for this at the very least...
  • No legitimate software worth its salt would interfere with/change any settings etc on your mac, if it did it would be called malware or a virus or ... now I have no idea what is 'provided with Apple macs' but you need to find out if anything might be interfering with the download. I do know that most users have no issues.

So I still suspect the problem is somewhere within your system. The fact you've tried to update without even first using your device (and I guess without making a back up?) shouldn't have any impact but probably isn't a good idea. Should there be a problem you won't even know if it was working correctly 'out of the box'.

I suggest you check your nuvi is working correctly. Then ensure you're running the latest version of Express, and delete then reassociate your nuvi with Express. Details are here:

Having done so try again and post back with the results.
