garmin express saying device connection required

garmin express saying device connection required yet my nuvi 54 is connected to mac i have changed the leads and switched on and off but no joy so can not update maps
Your account shows that a vivosmart was associated with it on Oct 24th 3:45pm. If you are still having trouble please let us know.

Today I used my PC at work and was able to access Garmin Express, delete my old Vivosmart and add my new one. I didn't have any problems logging in. But I am unable to do this via my Macbook Pro.
