garmin express saying device connection required
Former Member
garmin express saying device connection required yet my nuvi 54 is connected to mac i have changed the leads and switched on and off but no joy so can not update maps
I'm having the same problem... and I've got a PC. Been using the software since it came out, with the same lead and same device, never experienced this before.
Is there really any need to have detailed instructions for this? Seems to me having connected your device to Express clicking on Devices would be the next logical step?
But if you feel the need for detailed instructions:
Is the computer not seeing the device, or Express? If the computer isn't seeing the device try the following:
Different USB port
Different USB cable
Different computer
If it's Express, please retrieve the Garmindevice.xml from the device and send it to me in a PM. I can look at it and see if there is something wrong with it.
SUSSAMB is correct this is not an Express issue. This is a hardware issue with your Mac. If the device works while being plugged into a PC but doesn't work while being plugged into your Mac its the Mac that's having the issue. This being said not all USB ports will accept all devices that are out there. This issue can happen from not just Garmin devices it could happen with a cell phone or a camera to a printer.
Since you have tried multiple Macs what you may want to do is something we normally try and stay away from. Try plugging the Zumo 390 into some type of USB hub or extension cord. This process is usually avoided and in most of Garmin's troubleshooting processes we ask that you plug the device directly into the PC or MAC by passing any type of hub. In this case by using a USB hub it could possibly change the voltage from your USB ports and this might get the Zumo to go into Mass Storage mode and have the Mac detect the device. Again this is not a normal practice and we try to avoid doing this but in this case it could work for you.
I received my replacement Vivosmart yesterday. Garmin Express recognizes the device, but when I try and login to my account (rather than create a new account), it will not accept my email address and password. I've received numerous password resets via email by clicking on "Forgot" at the login, but none of those will take me to the next screen.
Any thoughts/ideas on why this is happening? I am able to connect via Garmin Connect with no problems.
