Garmin Express unresponsive

I just installed an updated for Garmin Express, so I am now running version 3.2.17.0 on the latest production release of Mac OSX.
Garmin Express will not automatically launch when I connect my Edge 500 device, even though I have specified that it should do so. When I hit the "Sync Now" button the button becomes disabled and nothing ever happens after that. It says "Last synced May 5, 2014..." and that is the last ride that appears on Garmin Connect, but it won't upload the ride I did today (August 12). I have no issue uploading my rides to strava using the Garmin Communicator plugin, but Garmin Express seems to do nothing.

I then went to the Garmin Connect site to upload my ride data manually, but the Garmin Connect site is messed up, too - the navigation menu items on the left side seem to do nothing, although all the links other than the navigation work fine. I'm accessing it using Chrome.
  • ABUNUR, could you please let us know if the "Garmin Express Service" is actively running when you connect your device?
Please go into [Activity Monitor] you should see "Two" Garmin Express processes. One should be the Application itself and the other the service. The service must be actively running in the background for it to automatically pickup on a attached device within Express and Sync. It's possible that pending device settings/personal records or other pending Connect sync data in your account may be causing the service to crash upon device detection. If the black Garmin Express triangle disappears from your Mac menu bar upon connection this may be the problem. If you could supply us your log information we may be able to shed more light on this issue your encountering.

I have PM'd you a log collection code and instructions.

Was there a fix to this issue, because I'm experiencing the same behavior.
  • Me too, same behavior. I see that the Garmin Express service is initially running on restart, but disappears shortly after I plug in my Edge 510, reappears when I manually start Garmin Express, and then disappears shortly there after. Garmin Express then displays "Loading Devices" forever.
  • Garmin Express Service crash file

Here's the Garmin Express Service .crash file
  • This may be resolved by completely uninstalling Garmin Express from the Mac and then reinstalling a fresh new copy. Here are some steps on how to completely uninstall the program:

    1. Click Garmin Express in the menu bar if the application is running
    2. Select Quit
    3. Click the Finder icon from the dock
    4. From the menus at the top of the screen, click Go
    5. Click Applications
    6. Click and drag Garmin Express icon to the Trash
    7. From the menus at the top, click Go
    8. Click Go to folder
    9. In the text box, type ~/Library and click OK
    10. Open the Preferences folder
    11. Click and drag com.garmin.renu.client.plist and com.garmin.renu.service.plist to the Trash. If a .lockfile version of the file exists throw it in the Trash as well
    12. Navigate back to the Library folder, steps 7-9
    13. Open the Application Support folder
    14. Open the Garmin folder
    15. Click and drag the Express folder to the Trash
    16. Navigate back to the Library folder, steps 7-9
    17. Open the Caches folder
    18. Click and drag the com.garmin.renu.client and com.garmin.renu.service files to the Trash
    19. Empty the Trash

At this point, the program should be completely uninstalled. Now reinstall Garmin Express by downloading the installer from here: Garmin Express

After Garmin Express is reinstalled, please try pairing the device again and test if the device will now sync with Garmin Connect.

I followed the instructions to delete and reinstall Garmin Express.
Unfortunately, the new install of Garmin Express promptly deleted ALL my run history on my FR10.
I would warn others about this procedure without backing up their device, which I hadn't!
