Garmin express will not find my Nuvi 3590

I wanted to update my maps etc and connected my Nuvi 3590 clicked the update button and it says there are no connected devices. I have tried this on my mac, my macbook and a PC and the same message appears.
I have updated the maps earlier in the year when I bought it but now express cannot find it at all.
My Garmin Edge touring for cycling works ok.
Please help!
  • Could be various reasons for this, so work through this FAQ ... https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={6fa1cca0-486e-11dd-6d60-000000000000}

    Given that your Edge is working it's likely to be something related to your 3590, maybe a cable or a corrupted xml file

    If you can't find the problem on your mac and can connect to a PC try the steps here (which also covers the problem with the xml file)

    Maybe you've had this sorted by now, but just thought I would share my experience of a similar problem.
    I too had a Nuvi 3590 which wouldn't update because Garmin Express couldn't detect it (but my PC and Mac did!), so after 9 months of exchanges by email and by phone, being to told not much what basically amounted to "have you tried switching it off and on again", I demanded a refund or replacement.
    No one at Garmin would admit there was a fault (let alone a generic fault), but I just got my replacement and guess what it works.
    First time, no problem, just as it should!
    Somehow I think I might have had a faulty machine after all.
    Not pleased with Garmin Support at all.
