Everytime I restart my mac Garmin Express tries to reinstall

I have no idea why. Running OSX 10.9.4.

The installer package seems to automatically run every time the computer reboots. Have tried letting it go through the install, killing the install. Nothing seems to have any effect.

The app seems to work fine syncing a Edge 810 and and a Forerunner successfully.
  • Are you sure its the installer? On my two Macs it always forget the devices and is trying to start the "Get started guide".
Please, can we go back to Web Updater instead?

Garmin Express is a total mess. It seems there is no way to tell if it is running, is it off, etc etc.

It has no instructions when an update is "installed" on a unit on how the installation procedure is done, eject device, disconnect, power it on, etc etc.

Yes, definitely the installer. Each time I restart the installer pkg file reappears on my desktop, opens, mounts the disk image and asks to reinstall.
  • A common process for installing applications on the Mac is to open the installer.dmg file then drag the icon into the Applications folder on the Mac. Garmin Express installs through a traditional installer application. Delete the Garmin Express icon from the Applications folder then see the FAQ: How do I install Garmin Express on the computer?

  • Is it possible the disk image is in the Automatic Startup in "System Preferences/User Accounts/Login Items ?"

Make sure you upgrade to the latest version, 3.2.16.0, it seems to be better in that it works after quit and re launch.

This is happening to me as well.

The first step is for Garmin to acknowledge this is happening. I am a longtime Mac user with an IT background - I'm not an idiot. There is no login item for the installer - in fact, I've deleted the installer from my computer.
  • The updates seem to come every few days and fire up after a re-start prompting installation of the update. Depending how often you re-start your system may well be affecting your perception of how often GE appears to be reinstalling, when it may well be just installing an update.

If it happens every time you re-start - try successive re-starts and see what happens - then you may well have a problem.

Same here - wants to re-install after a reboot, when the sun comes up, it rains, you name it. I have deleted the .DMG file and even with the most recent version, the same behavior exists.

Additionally, the Modern interface is rubbish. I know it is supposed to upload automatically, but that does not happen. Time for a fix Garmin.

Any update on this? It's happening to me also. Just uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted my computer and still did it. Pretty annoying.
  • All,

Please try fully uninstalling Garmin Express by following the instructions in this support article:

How do I completely uninstall Garmin Express?

After uninstalling Express and deleting all of the referenced files, try installing Express again.

If this does not resolve the issue, Express can be prevented from starting when the computer starts by following the steps in this support article:

Is it possible to prevent Garmin Express from running in the background on my computer?

This should at least delay updating Express until you choose to launch the application.

Since we are not able to duplicate this issue internally, I'd recommend contacting us by phone if the above does not correct the issue:

I'm having the same problem on two MACs (mine and my son's). Both are running 10.9.4 and both try to reinstall GE every time we restart the MAC.
