Can't load workouts to 310XT

I installed Garmin Express (uninstalled ANT Agent, no outstanding files lingering anywhere) and now I can't transfer workouts to my Forerunner 310XT.

I tried going back to ANT Agent but when I sent workouts to my 310XT I got an error message that my "device does not support workouts". What?? I've been uploading workouts just fine until this new software.

So I uninstalled ANT Agent and went back to Garmin Express. Updated device software. Still nothing. Deleted device from Express, closed everything, restarted computer and device, did the whole setup again. Still nothing.

Syncing is just one way: it downloads activities to Garmin Connect but it won't send any data to the device.

Creating workouts directly on the 310XT is far too cumbersome to be an option. I'll spend more time creating the workout than actually doing it.

Please help!!
  • Are you on the old GC or the new GC?

Garmin seem unable (or unwilling) to support old GC and Express. AFAIK, you can only send to your device from the new 'modern' GC when using Garmin Express; you cannot send using the old version.

As part of the installation with GE, the Garmin Communicator plugin needed by the old GC is removed/disabled. You could always try re-installing Garmin Communicator and see if that works.

    Hello
I've got the same issue as Katrinamoy using firefox or Safari.
It's impossible to transfer my workouts from Garmin Connect to my 310XT. The other way around works.
I use the new GC and Garmin Express.
Garmin Engineers, time to work, it's really annoying!!!
  • Single workouts can be sent to compatible ANT fitness devices from Connect Modern through Garmin Express. The device should be paired with Express and Synced with a Connect Modern account.

    • Sign in to Connect Modern
    • Click the Menu icon on the left (three bars)
    • Click Workouts
    • Select a Workout
    • Click Send to Device
    • Select the device from the drop down menu
    • Click Send Now
    • Accept the prompt for Express to handle the file

Garmin Express will initiate the Sync with the device to transfer the workout.

Exact same problem as stated above, and your suggestion did not work, i get an error every time i try.
  • Have you tried a different browser? You can also try to send the workout to the calender before attempting to send it again.

It doesn't work. I've tried every suggestion stated in any thread anywhere. I still no longer get my workouts onto my Garmin 310XT. I'm about to throw my Garmin in the trash and go with a competitor brand.

    I've got the same problem.
I've already tried reinstall everything, clean my registry, reinstall the old version of garmin express and nothing.
The best thing is the garmin doesn't explain what is happing and keeping ask us to reinstall. Of course that we already tried do reinstall it. Now I wanna a solution. Not a simple "try to change de usb port"
The 310xt is very expansive model and doesn't work put the exercices directly into the 310xt, cause will take more time than properly use.
I am waiting a real soluction to solve this problem and be able to put the exercices into my 310.

I am thinking in do the same, because until now...none solution!!
  • Sending workouts to the Forerunner 310XT is successful here and in many other instances. The process works in most environments, determining what is different about your environments is difficult at best on a forum. Permissions and UAC issues may come into play, bad or corrupt data may be preventing the transfer etc.. Deleting the device from Express, uninstall/reinstall and doing a master reset on the watches is the most appropriate suggestions support can provide. These suggestions have the best chance of removing corrupt data and ensuring there were no install issues. If these suggestions did not resolve the issue we recommend you contact Garmin Product Support by phone at 800.800.1020 M-Th 8am-6pm and Fri 8am-5pm US CST where a more thorough investigation of your environment can be performed.

  • Finally, finally, finally got this to work. I can only assume that old Ant Agent files might have been mucking things up, since I was mistaken in my original post: there WERE outstanding files lingering in hidden folders that I didn't know how to access. Cleaned these out, reinstalled Express, reset my 310XT and threw in a support call to Garmin (thanks, Ben!) and we're in business.

Found information regarding how to locate Garmin files on my Mac in this post, also included below with my modifications for all Garmin files, not just ANT-related ones.

I somehow ended up with 2 versions of the 310XT in Garmin Connect. I only noticed this after I had put the call through to Support. Following Ben's instructions, I first looked up the Unit ID on the 310XT: Mode - Settings - About Forerunner - Unit ID. Then I clicked on Devices and clicked on each device in turn to see if the Device ID matched the Unit ID. I removed the device that didn't match by clicking the cog in the top right-hand corner and selecting Remove. I then sent a test workout to the remaining device...AND. IT. WORKED!!!

    A) Reset the Forerunner and clear all user data
    1. Power off the Forerunner.
    2. Press and hold the Mode button.
    3. Turn on the device.
    4. Release on Mode button when "Do you really want to erase all user data?" appears.
    5. Select Yes.
    6. Leave the unit outside, with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to acquire satellite data before use.
    7. I went through the "initial setup" on the Garmin at this point because it started the process - not sure if I could skip it. Make sure Data Transfer=Yes and Pairing=On (Mode - Settings - Data Transfer).

    B) Clear out anything Garmin-related from the computer:
    1. Access the Macintosh HD/Users/(User Name)/Library folder, which is hidden on a Mac, as follows:
    a. Select the (User Name) folder
    b. Click Go from the menu bar
    c. Select Go to Folder
    d. Type Library
    e. Click the Go button
    2. Go to Macintosh HD/Users/(User Name)/Library/Preferences and move anything that starts with com.garmin to the Trash
    3. Go to Macintosh HD/Users/(User Name)/Library/Caches and move anything that starts with com.garmin to the Trash
    4. Go to Macintosh HD/Users/(User Name)/Library/Application Support and move the entire Garmin folder to the Trash
    5. Unplug the Ant stick.
    6. Empty Trash.
    7. Restart the computer (I know, it's a Mac, but at this point I wasn't going to leave anything to chance).
    8. Plug the Ant stick back in.

    C) Go back to Garmin Connect and delete/remove the Device still associated with the account [which I SHOULD have done the first time].

    D) Reinstall Garmin Express, go through the pairing, connecting with GC account, etc.

    E) Send a workout to your device. Do a little dance of joy when it works. Go back to your 310XT, set up the screens just the way you like them (again) and look forward to tomorrow's run. Finally.
