Every time I open Garmin Express either directly from applications or through Garmin Connect the installer opens. I have to close that and reopen Garmin Express and then it's fine. Have tried reinstalling etc. Driving me mad!!! Anyone else have this problem???
I used to have this problem. In ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/AppUpdates I had a number of .dmg files. I trashed them and the problem went away.
Had the same issue along with the useless modern interface. Just tried the solution above and will see how that goes. Interestingly the date on the DMG in that folder was for the most recent update (26th June 2014), which leads me to think that , whilst GC looks for updates as in Preferences it does not appear to install them. I only found this out when I was check in About to get the version number. Low and behold there was an option in About that was to actually install the updates. Another hidden feature from Garmin.
I am thinking that when GC launches and has a new update downloaded it is wanting to update, via the Installer, but does not actually tell you there is an update. So you think, like I did that it was just doing as re-install each time.
Given the quality of GC, Modern coupled with my HRM issues on my Edge 500, expect little from Garmin and you won't be disappointed. Expect the devices and software to work as you want and then you will be disappointed.
I installed Garmin Express on my MacBook Pro sometime back but every time I start my laptop the Garmin Express Installer opens. How do I make this stop?
I've been having the same problem. I just trashed the .dmg files like Longwayaround suggested. I hope this works. This has been driving me mad for many months now also...
So it appears that when it launches an installer it's because there's an update. It's just a really awkward way of updating. If I just run the installer again, I get new software. Thanks for the help. Strange software.
same situation here, always if I restart my Mac the installer pops up. Will try the above mentioned process too. Unfortunately for me this doesn't work. Everytime I restart my Mac there is a "new" file garminexpressinstall.dmg in this folder. No idea where it comes from because searching for such a filename either in the finder or with spotlight shows no result not even the one in the folder named AppUpdates :(
It's not strange, it's different from what we are used to.
I'm guessing that Garmin feel they were making it easier for updates to be applied and didn't take into consideration the end users' perceptions. It's probably fair to say that Mac owners do not reboot their machines very often so when we do ,we get spooked into thinking GE is re-installing every time.
This is a topic that has been extensively discussed elsewhere in the newsgroup. The simple test to see if there is a real problem is to do an immediate reboot after the installer has run. Strangely enough, nobody's come back and said the problem remains.

Er, I think you'll find that's what strange means: unusual, surprising, unfamiliar, different etc. No big deal but it would help if Garmin's notification said something like the usual 'an update is available'.
Kept having this same issue and just deleted all the dmg installer files. Seems to have fixed itself. Question is, why does the app launcher try to open up the installer file all the time? That needs to be fixed.
