Garmin Express exhibits bizarre behavior with respect to updates.

I launched garmin express from the finder, then quit the app, and relaunched using the menu bar icon. The app launched then crashed(?) then a disk image was mounted and I'm asked to install Garmin Express. As I already have it installed, I'm not sure why it wants me to install it again.

Perhaps this behavior is intentional. Most people wouldn't recognize it as such. It only makes me less confident in the app. I wonder why it wants to be installed again? Is it a defect? A virus? I don't know.

I wouldn't think a software developer would need to be told this, but if it is supposed to be an update, then the right thing to do is tell the user that there is a newer version available, and ask me if I want to install it. During that process I should be told what version I have and what the new version is.

Garmin never ceases to amaze me. I don't mean this in a good way.
  • Quitting the application is going to remove the icon from the menu bar, it is better to close the GE window using red X.
If the application is installed, but you are seeing a disk image on your desktop, ejecting it will prohibit it from installing over and over.
