FR70 with Garmin Express

I upgraded Garmin Express which de-installed Ant Agent. Now I don't have Ant Agent installed, and Garmin Express won't recognise my FR70.

Going back to Ant Agent is a poor choice because it was pretty flakey with my 910XT.

So Garmin:
How do I use my 910XT, FR70 with Mac OSX 10.9.3? (I happen also to have an Edge 510)

Ant Agent sort of works with the 910XT and FR70.
Garmin Express works with the 910XT but not FR70.
Ant Agent and Garmin Express won't work with each other.

I have no good solution for the FR70.
I have an acceptable solution for the 910XT provided we all agree the FR70 was a waste of my money.

Same problem with my FR70. Installed and updated to Express and now it can't see my FR70. Not happy being a guinea pig.
  • If the devices show up in Garmin Express immediately after the initial installation then some of the information was pulled from the ANT Agent as it was uninstalled. This data might be causing the device not to be found when Syncing. Delete the device and use the instructions below to delete the old ANT Agent data then pairing it again.

See the FAQ: What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client?

    1. Open Finder
    2. Click the Go menu in the Menu Bar
    3. Click Go to Folder
    4. Type this exactly ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Devices/
    5. Click OK
    6. Delete the numbered folder, (Unit ID of device)
    7. Empty the Trash

    Hello.
I've tried all this with my FR60 but still get a greyed out device icon & details. After deleting and re-registering the device, the FR60 hangs with 'Transferring' scrolling across the screen.

Were you using Garmin ANT Agent and transferring data previous to using Garmin Express on this same computer?

Yes, the same device and macbook pro.

If the FR60 has not successfully been added to Garmin Express, I suggest you clean the Mac of the data left over from the ANT Agent then try to pair it again.

    • Open Finder
    • Click the Go menu in the Menu Bar
    • Click Go to Folder
    • Type ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Devices
    • Click Go

This will open a new window. If you only have one ANT device then throw the contents of the Devices folder in the Trash. Be sure to Empty the Trash on the Mac. If you have more than one ANT Device move the contents of the Devices folder to the Desktop. Open Express and try to pair the FR60 again.

    Hello Curt.

Tried this and the FR60 still greyed out. Even tried deleting both ANT & Express, emptying trash then restarting mac before downloading Express again but just the same. Have downloaded ANT again and paired ok. Any further advice? Concerned what will happen when Connect Classic is turned off and no upload button....

  • The FR70 is compatible with Express and able to Sync with Garmin Connect Modern. There must be something left over from the ANT Agent which is blocking the ability to Sync. When you pair the device with Express, are you prompted to enter your Connect username and password?

Since Express and the ANT Agent were not meant to be installed at the same time, use the FAQ: How do I uninstall ANT Agent? to do a complete uninstall of the ANT Agent. This uninstall includes preference files and the keychain certificate for Garmin Connect.

Install the latest version of Garmin Express v3.2.8 released this week.

  • I am having the same problem with my FR70. I am using the most up to date version of Garmin express. In my experience so far the FR70 is *not* compatible with Garmin express. This is further confirmed by Garmin express displaying a message that my FR70 is not compatible.

I have followed the instructions to delete the contents of the devices folder. In the previous post, you mentioned that there could be something else from Ant Agent preventing Garmin Express from recognizing the FR70. What other things need to be delete before this will begin working.

    Thanks

    Thank you Curt,

Uninstalling ANT Agent as per the support article you posted solved my problem and the FR60 is now sorted on Express.
