Says it uploaded activity from my device, activity is not found on Garmin Connect

I downloaded Garmin Express to be able to update the firmware on my garmin 500. I didn't know it would automatically download activities from my 500 immediately when plugged in and then upload those activities and then delete the activity from the device. The problem is that today's activity is not showing up on garmin connect. Does it sometimes take a while before it shows up online?
It's always showed up immediately for me. This is why you never check the box that asks you if you want to delete things. I don't see anywhere in the usual places where it might keep a copy locally, either.
I wasn't aware that Garmin express would even be downloading the activities in the first place, that is the frustrating part. Anyone else ever have a delay for the activity to show up on Garmin connect?
By default Garmin Express is not configured to erase activities from a device after a successful sync. This setting can be changed under the Device menu. Uncheck "Erase data on this device after successfully syncing".
Do you have any fitness ANT devices in the household that upload data to a second Garmin Connect account? If there are multiple fitness devices of any type that need to upload to separate Garmin Connect accounts, a separate User Account on the Mac is needed for each user. If another device was synced to an account before you added your Edge then your activities will upload to the initial Connect Account.
No other devices and this one connects directly with USB cable. No other Garmin Connect account. The preferences of the Garmin Express shows the username of the GC account which is the same account as this one I am typing with.
