Garmin Express simply not working (FR 210 and Edge 500)

I am using Version 3.2.5.0 of Garmin Express, and with each release, things get worse. I have been migrated onto the "modern" web UI, but the only way to sync my activities (with either my FR 210 or my Edge 500) is to switch to "classic", click the "upload" button and sync all new activities.

When I first used my devices with Garmin Express, it worked just great, automatically syncing new activities with my connect account. However, of late it has simply failed to sync anything to my connect account without going through the rigmarole described above. My devices are connected according to the Garmin Express UI, but clicking "Sync" doesn't do anything, except make the sync button dimmed, (I have waited ages to see if it just needs time, but no joy).

My wife has a FR410 and her own user account on the Mac and (of course) her own Garmin Connect account. I was hoping that the recent release to support her device would at least allow her the convenience of auto syncing, but no. The same arcane waste of time workaround also needs to be employed by her.

What with this, plus the fact that there are 2 permanent notifications within the modern UI about Timezone Map v14.0 updates, the fact that their chest worn HRM is utter rubbish, requiring a random combination of about 20 "fixes" before it works properly, there is no way on earth I would shell out for another Garmin product.

What steps can be taken to get Garmin Express syncing correctly with our various devices and user accounts?

Have you removed the devices from Express then added them back and synced to your Connect account? If you continue to have troubles click "Show Device->" under the Sync button. If there is a specific file on the device causing the Sync error it should be shown. An example would be "Device Settings" or "Heart Rate".

In regards to your wife's device. It is good that you understand a separate User Account on the Mac is required. Try deleting the device from Express and adding it back again. All fitness devices are compatible with this latest version of Express which included the addition of the 410.

You may run into an instance where Garmin Connect Modern continually sends an update for a device to Express. You can remove the update from the Sync menu on the left in Connect Modern if needed.

Thanks very much for getting back to me. I tried removing the devices from Express and then re-adding them. They seemed to sync automatically so it looks like that may have done it. I will do the same on my wife's user account for her 410 and let you know how I get on.

    Mortal Wombatuk,

I too am having the same syncing problem with a Forerunner 210 and MAC. I've removed the device from Express 3 times, only to fail to sync each time. It is not giving me a reason below the sync, button, just stating failed to sync. I truly hope you have another suggestion.

    Thanks,
    Becky

It sounds like there may be some corruption on the Forerunnere 210 causing your problem if the previous troubleshooting steps did not resolve your issue. I would suggest a reset of your device.

How do I master reset my Forerunner 610, 210, or 110?

Garmin connect issues Forerunner 610. Latest runs appear when sync is performed. Then they are no where to be found in the activities feed? installed, reinstalled, changed browsers! Nothing WORKS. HELP.

Everything was working fine with the old version and all the updates have screwed things up. We have tried over and over to fix this but to no avail.

When you say updates, are you referring to the move from Garmin Connect Classic View to Connect Modern View, or from Garmin ANT Agent software to Garmin Express software? If you recently moved from Garmin ANT Agent to Garmin Express then I suggest you use the instructions in the FAQ: What troubleshooting options can I try when my fitness device will not upload data?

If you recently started using Connect Modern, log in to your account through a web browser and click Devices in the menus on the left. If the Forerunner is not listed there then make sure you are using the same username and password with Express. I noticed that this username(email) doesn't have any devices associated with it which would normally be the case when someone has only one account.
