Installed Express, now no data being transferred

I came home tonight after doing a longish (for me in my early riding days) journey home, and as previously, the ANT agent launches and uploads my data. I then opened connect (I never got the sync between ANT and Connect to work), and when clicking on the Upload button, it tells me all about Express. So I install Express (which also appears to remove the ANT agent) and linked may account and paired the device, but there is no data on the device - I assume it's on my mac somewhere uploaded by the ANT agent?
Have I lost it? My ANT agent was set to delete rides after successful upload, so am guessing this is why, but is there a way to see/read the data uploaded by ANT?
I'l be really gutted if i've lost todays rides as also managed a PB this morning on my cycle in!!
Thanks
Martin

I suggest you make sure Express is set up so the data is not deleted from the device.

    • Open Express
    • Click Device menu
    • Verify the "Erase data on this device after successfully syncing" is unchecked

Use the FAQ: Why are my activities files not being stored on my computer once I have uploaded them to Garmin Connect using Garmin Express? to locate the activity from May 21st. You can use the IMPORT option to manually upload the Activity to your account. If you are using the new Connect Modern view, open the Activities window from the menu on the left and click the Import link in the upper right corner.

Create a test activity for at least one minute with GPS signal and see if it will upload to Connect. If you continue to have troubles check the
~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/3856930153/PendingSyncUploads/Garmin/Activty/FIT_TYPE4/ directory for any files from yesterday or today. If the activities do not show up in Connect I will want the files in this directory.

Let me know if you have any questions. Also fell free to contact Garmin UK if needed.

  • I have Express 3.2.5.0, but the folder ~user/Library/Application Support/Garmin/GarminConnect does not exist on my system. Do i have to create this folder manually? It exists only the old Garmin Ant Agend and Garmin Training Center incl. Devices...folder. But these structure refers to my older Garmin devices. I can find the Fenix2 activities right now, only direct on the device, when it is connected via USB.
Is there a possibility that they are automatically transferred to the folder as described in the FAQ?

    OK Done.

Yesterday whenever I clicked Upload from Connect it would take me to the Express install screen, but today it worked, so all is sorted now.

I did this, and it successfully uploaded the 1 minute activity to Connect, though the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/3856930153 existed, after the upload, it had created the subfolder PendingSyncUploads/History and that folder is empty. The subfolders Garmin/Activty/FIT_TYPE4/ do not exist, so I have created these folders.

Thanks for your help - much appreciated

    Thanks

  • I don't have that folder either, although I don't know if I had it before I updated to 3.2.5.0 or not. Oddly, I got a 1 second activity to sync, but a 28 minute one with real data tells me everything is fine and that my data has been synced, but then nothing shows up. Of course, Garmin Connect still tells me I need to update the timezone map on my 610 even though I've done that about 4 times now. I suspect 3.2.5.0 is just broken (like the message on Connect).

The good news is that the 610 syncs just fine through Wahoo on my iPhone. I really want to like my Garmin devices, but every one of them always seems to have some issue or another. With all the changes in the fitness tracking industry going on right now, its going to be hard to stay on the Garmin platform.

Since the fenix2 is a mass storage device you will not have the ~user/Library2/Application Support/Garmin/GarminConnect/ folder. When the fenix 2 is added to Garmin Express and synced with a Connect account you will have the ~user/Library2/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/UNITID/. Files being sent from Connect are stored in the PendingSyncDownloads folder. Activity Files sent to Connect are stored in PendingSyncUploads only until Connect accepts them then they are deleted. The fenix2 files are not stored on the computer as they are with ANT devices, simply because they can be accessed on the device.
