Garmin Express wants to update EVERY TIME I launch it

I have GE installed on my MacBook Air. Because of other software that needs to use ANT+ (TrainerRoad), I have to close out of GE regularly. But every time I try & relaunch the software from the icon in the Applications folder, I am presented the software installation screen. This is not a once in a while thing, this happens EVERY SINGLE TIME I launch Garmin Express. I cancel out of the software installation & click the icon again & it opens up correctly.

I have gone in preferences & set it to never update automatically, but I still get these install screens upon launch. Is Garmin literally rolling out new versions every other day? How can I keep this installation screen from coming up every time?
  • Well you're very lucky because on the PC version the auto update doesn't work :(

I suspect you're a version or two behind, why not just accept the update and it then shouldn't happen

That's the thing, I have the most current version installed. And it still prompts me to install the software (same version I already have installed as far as I can tell). I only want to turn the auto update off, not because I don't want to stay current (I do), but as an attempt to kill the useless & incessant installation requests.
  • Not sure what's happening then, hopefully someone else will
  • It sounds like you drug the Express Installer icon from the Garmin Express mounted drive into the Applications folder on your Mac. Similar to how the Firefox Web Browser installs. Since it is the Installer it tries to install the application every time you click on it. Delete the Garmin Express icon from Applications then see the FAQ: How do I install Garmin Express on the computer?

  • I was having the EXACT same problem. So I deleted GE from the application folder and reinstalled and the problem is gone!!!

    Thanks

I had the same problem. Today I redownloaded and reinstalled the app, hopefully this will solve my problem.
  • I'm having the same problem, I uninstalled, reinstalled, and it appeared to go away for a bit but came back. Whenever I open Garmin Express it wants to install. I can close the installer, and re-open the application and it's fine, but wow it's annoying.
  • Express might be trying to install the update file it stores. Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/AppUpdates/ and delete the GarminExpressInstaller.dmg file.

Empty the Trash on the Mac then restart it and that should fix the issue.
