910XT occasionally shuts off during data transfer

I started using a new 910XT about 2 weeks ago. I'm on a Mac and using Garmin Express to sync data into Garmin Connect. I've noticed on a few occasions that my 910XT shuts off (e.g. physically powers down on its own) during data transfers. I haven't noticed a pattern, it's not really repeatable, and it doesn't happen every time. It happened again this morning as I was uploading today's run, so I thought I'd post to the forum to see if anyone has noticed this. Thanks!
  • Any update from Garmin on this issue where Upload fails and keeps switching watch off

The case is still open and under investigation. There is no ETA on a resolution.

Pardon me for resurrecting an old thread; however, enclosed is the solution that worked for me:

My 910xt device worked seamlessly ... Upload now working fine again, with laptop in close (3 foot range to WiFi router), or hard-wired to router.

jrydzews, I don't understand what you changed to make it work. You talk about about laptops and wifi, but what steps did you take to resolve your situation?

I'm having the same problem, using a Windows 7 PC, on wifi to internet, with 910XT, an empty cache of saved runs in the history, and latest software.

My problem is that it just turns off at about 90% transferring data. If I turn it back on, it will work the 2nd, or maybe 3rd time I try. So it eventually works, but it's super-annoying, and I worry eventually it will stop working.

It does not matter what are windows or what WIFI are you using , is the same on Mac , same on Windows

I am not using my 910xt very often but few days ago same happened same, after an run watch had several shutdowns trying to upload files

I am using 1 sec recording, fit file is larger, I suspect that Garmin Express is sending directly the file over the internet instead of sending watch --> PC --> GC servers , if service is not online or something happens between 910xt and Ant+ dongle and eventually shutdowns

Now I have from an friend of mine an 920xt and I love the WIFI + BT connectivity, this is the biggest plus over 910xt ,and I think the only plus

Still Garmin should try to fix this , I don't understand how can they not replicate this error , I still love my 910xt but is kind of freaky to not have the device crashing while I running but is crashing while is sending the data

    Sync Problem Solution ?

    Dear all,

    Im on a Macbook pro.

i've been having this problem during the last weeks. Today i tried like 10 times and everytime the 910xt switched off.

So, i realized i bought an smart trainer some weeks ago and it uses Ant+ connection.

I had the Smart Trainer ON, i just unplugged the Power cable and then the Gamin Connect worked perfectly again.

so i think in my case it should be some kind of Duplicate signal problem ?.

Anyway , Garmin Express Sucks and every update seems like they get worse.

    Good luck to all.
  • I've had this issue on my 910xt for about a year now, ever since moving to Yosemite and Garmin Express (because Garmin Connect wouldn't support snow Leopard anymore). It's had the shutdown during transfer issue every since. Today it took 4 tries before getting all the data over and had to set the watch to transfer all activities. So annoying!! I'm going to erase all the activities on the watch now since they are all on GC and see if that helps for the next transfer (at least there should be fewer activities to transfer).

How much history do you have stored on the device? Have you tried deleting all the activities that have already been uploaded to Connect and tried the sync again? If not, please do so. If the device still powers down, it will need more in depth troubleshooting and I recommend contacting Product Support by phone to do so.

    Hi,

I have a question, why cannot be implement an way to sync activities from devices to Garmin Express in a temporarily folder ,and to send activities to GC servers after that?

  • I *may* have found the issue?

Hi all. I've had the same issue as you since my 910XT upgraded firmware to 3.00. For a while, I've done what some here suggested, just keep power the watch back on, and eventually it'll complete syncing. What I have found is that, after resetting like that for a numerous times, I see some old activity that are in my Garmin Connect page showing back up in my watch, as if the sync downloaded some activities as well.

Last week, I went into MODE > History > Activities and painstakingly went through the entire memory bank, comparing the activities to what I have already posted/uploaded, and delete any duplicates; afterward, with whatever was left in the watch, I went into MODE > History > Transfer All, and everything was uploaded successfully, and in relatively short time compared to sync activity for the past few months. Then I went and delete everything, and will continue to do so after every sync, which is usually weekly, 5-7 activities.

Maybe that can alleviate some stress for you all.
