910XT occasionally shuts off during data transfer

I started using a new 910XT about 2 weeks ago. I'm on a Mac and using Garmin Express to sync data into Garmin Connect. I've noticed on a few occasions that my 910XT shuts off (e.g. physically powers down on its own) during data transfers. I haven't noticed a pattern, it's not really repeatable, and it doesn't happen every time. It happened again this morning as I was uploading today's run, so I thought I'd post to the forum to see if anyone has noticed this. Thanks!

I am sorry that you are having trouble syncing. You can try deleting all of the old activities that have already updated to see if this will allow the remaining activities to sync. It is possible that there is a corrupt activity causing the problem. If this doesn't solve the problem, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone to troubleshoot this issue.

Try leaving your heart rate monitor on. I think the input to the watch keeps it from shutting down. It's been working for me so far. Not a real fix but a good work-around.

    This doesn't work either.

I tried syncing while leaving the heart rate monitor on. Didn't work either. The watch still powered down. Any other solutions that I can try ? This is getting frustrating.

How much history do you have stored on the device? Have you tried deleting all the activities that have already been uploaded to Connect and tried the sync again? If not, please do so. If the device still powers down, it will need more in depth troubleshooting and I recommend contacting Product Support by phone to do so.

  • Hi
It happen also to my device, shutdowns when device sync with my Windows laptop , once fit file was corrupted because of this shutdown

910 XT has a advanced logging menu as Edge 810?

if yes , maybe can we send more detailed logs

It would make sense that the activity would be corrupt on the computer if the device powered down while it was transferring. If this were to occur, the activity would just need to be transferred again (by choosing Transfer all in the History menu). If the activity was corrupt on the watch, it is likely that this is actually what caused the device to power off, not the other way around. The activities are not modified on the watch during a sync.

Unfortunately, there is no logging options on the device since with an ANT device, we can't access the device memory to access any logs that would be created. However, we do have a case open for this issue since we have seen these reports in the forums. We have gathered the log files from Garmin Express when this occurs and are currently investigating the issue.

  • Completely reset watch (910XT) and uninstalled Garmin Connect. Then I deleted all the folders (Program Files (x86)/Garmin).
Did this after 3 days of failed attempts to upload my one and only Ironman race of the year, very freaking frustrating.
Have done 3 runs since, everything worked ok. Now tonight after 4 hours trying to upload my bike same problem, gets halfway through the second part of the sync process and watch shuts off.

Man this software sucks, NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE OLD ANTENNA AGENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 910XT switching off during Sync

Hello, i am having the same issues with my 910XT. Watch switches off after Syncing. Transferring Data is displayed on screen multiple times over 10min period and then watch switches off. Data does still Sync to Garmin Connect but i dont understand why multiple Syncs take place and watch switching off?

Has there any progress been made with this fault?

    thanks
    Phil

The case is still open and under investigation. There is no ETA on a resolution.

  • What worked for me

Pardon me for resurrecting an old thread; however, enclosed is the solution that worked for me:

My 910xt device worked seamlessly until the last couple weeks whereupon it would shut off during activity upload. After numerous attempts at a resolution, I did some internet searching and it seemed as though most if not all people experiencing this issue were referring to their "laptops" being used for sync & upload. What changed on my end recently is that I relocated my home workstation, so the laptop moved (which I previously had hard-wired to ethernet) and am now using the laptop with long range WiFi. 2+2=4.

Upload now working fine again, with laptop in close (3 foot range to WiFi router), or hard-wired to router. (As an aside, I use a PC so this issue is not inherent only to Mac's)

    Hope it helps~
