910XT occasionally shuts off during data transfer

I started using a new 910XT about 2 weeks ago. I'm on a Mac and using Garmin Express to sync data into Garmin Connect. I've noticed on a few occasions that my 910XT shuts off (e.g. physically powers down on its own) during data transfers. I haven't noticed a pattern, it's not really repeatable, and it doesn't happen every time. It happened again this morning as I was uploading today's run, so I thought I'd post to the forum to see if anyone has noticed this. Thanks!

Happens to me EVERY time I try to upload my runs. This "feature" started with one of latest Garmin Express update and now I cannot use my 910 with Garmin Express at all. Bummer. I'm on Mac as well.
  • That's happened to me as well. maybe about 1 in every 10 syncs, turn it back on and it syncs OK. I'm on a Mac with Garmin Express and everything on latest software versions
  • This is happening to me all the time, too. After updated to firmware 3.0.0 and Garmin Express, it freezes for few seconds during a data transfer and then it shuts off. Restart it and occasionally it works, and I can continue with my life.

    Me too

Happens to me more than a couple times, sometimes 2 to 3 times during 1 transfer. I'm on Windows with all the latest updates and firmwares.
  • Once you get your data sync'd to Garmin Connect, you should seriously consider uninstalling Garmin Express, deleting all of the Garmin folders from your computer and re-installing it clean.
  • This has been a problem for a pretty long time. In the overall scheme of Garmin bugs, this is one I can live with.
  • +1 - This is the only issue I have had with mine. Like HappyRunner, I can live with it, but does anyone know if it is being addressed in the next update?

I know this is a really old thread, so sorry for resurrecting it. Has anybody noticed any changes recently to improve this? Garmin express crashes my watch every time I connect to my computer and it needs 20 minutes of reset cycling before it eventually decides to play ball...
  • Glad you did cjcharkes0 as its become an increasingly recurring error for my 910XT... Ruddy thing is taking for ever these days to transfer data across... becoming a real bind to track progress.

The guys at Strava must be having a right laugh at the lack of competition from Garmin... C'mon Garmin, for how long are your awesome products gonna keep the competition away when your user experience sucks!
  • I have had the same problem several times, running Windows 8.1, lastly now tonight.
Came back in after a jog, watch was turned on as was the computer. Watch started syncing automatically. "Great" i thought and took a shower.
Came back out and the watch was turned off, Garmin Express still displaying "Syncing...".

In addition, when turning the 910 back on, it hangs on the Garmin splash screen for some time, not responding to button push other than the brightness (top left).
Now, after turning the watch on and off about four times, it finally started syncing with Garmin Express again. However, somehow there are now 68 items to sync!
All activites with a time stamp in the interval when the 910 was being difficult.
I sincerely doubt this will be a successfull transfer... :(
